Maybe you should try some highlights. I have dark brown hair and recently got caramel colored highlights. It really lightened up my hair and made my face appear much brighter.
(and it's "dye" not die)
(and "brunette" not brunnette)

I have dyed my hair a darker shade of brown for a couple years now. If you want to explore the possibilities, begin with non-permanent dye. It usually lasts about 25 hair washes, and then most come totally out.
I have tried red, black, purple-red, and several different shades of dark/ medium brown. All looked pretty good, but I have found that I am happiest in a very dark brown to contrast with my light skin.
If you are tanned, then try a lighter shade, but I will warn you, try anything drastic and everyone will comment for weeks. Don't permanently dye your hair black or a very dark brown unless you plan of keeping it that way, you can't dye over dark colors with a lighter color.
If you need any more help, feel free to email me, I am reasonably experienced with home dyes.

P.S.
Here’s a funny little poem that I wrote myself about hair color….this NEVER happened, of course. But it’s kind of funny!!
The Colorist:
Natural color….Gosh, it sucks!!
So I buy and dye….I shell out big bucks!
I pace the store isle….Which color to choose??
There’s reds, blondes, blacks…even blues!!
I grab something blonde and I start to go…
then I grab a second box (My hair has grown!)
I get it home and there it sits
till I get in the mood to deal with the sh*t.
Then with disgust I drape on a towel.
Grab the timer and gloves….The time is now!
I slather it on, choking on fumes,
the timer’s ticking like impending doom!
Then I get down on my knees and I pray…
Please, oh God please, let it be okay!!
Then I rinse it all out and blow it all dry.
Oh God…it’s GREEN!!! I’m just gonna die!!

Highlights are always nice. ^__^ Why not try red? Or go crazy like green! I've seen a girl in the subway once, she had green hair and it looked awesome!! But maybe 'coz she was Asian. Asians esp. Chinese/Japanese/Koreans look good with that. So.. just try RED then. :)
