Christianity is based on fear and guilt, so Christians have no other way to try to convert people.

Your question implies Christians are INTENTIONALLY trying to scare you into believing in their faith, and as a few christians have mentioned above this is not the case. They believe their faith so blindly, that they honestly trust that by attempting to convert you they are doing you a favour, and some christians believe that if they have to scare you to do it they will. Infact some will go to any extreme to make conversions, including mass genocide, which I have seen circumstantial evidence of (not enough to make a criminal case out of). I see no great difference between fundamental extremist believers in Islam, Christianity or any other sectarian elitist exclusive regime, group or cell. Make no mistake, bible terrorists exist in todays society, and the most famous I can mention is the most powerful public figure on Earth:
No, not Robbie Williams, I'm talking about
US President George W. Bush

Ofcourse I say "most powerful PUBLIC figure," because his true power is minute relative to the people pulling the puppet's strings, both religious and corporate, and it's all, ALL, about the money. Worth, value, purpose and justification in today's society all revolve around money, no more so than the Christian faith. The wealthiest land owner on the planet is not a person. It isn't even a company. It's the Church. Anglican, Catholic and Christian Church land combined comes to an incalculable amount, several times more than the worth of Microsoft. The total value of all Church worth is more than the combined value of Fortune 500, the wealthiest 500 companies on the planet. An executive order from the leaders of any of these organisations is complied with, no questions asked. They are holding all the keys and blocking all the doors and if you want a good life you have a simple choice:

Beat em, join em, or hide. Good luck.

Someone cannot be "scared" into believing something. Obeying God's word out of guilt is most certainly not a reason. If you don't obey for the right reasons, you have not obeyed at all.

I have a question for someone who feels they can answer it.

Why does everyone on Yahoo! Answers seem to hate Christians who are trying to live by their faith? At least, some are. I know that some treat non-Christians unfairly, but some don't. So why are all clumped into the same group of "People-who-are-trying-to-force-religion-on-me?" And doesn't grouping them together in fact shoot down your theory that you are tolerent and they are not?

Christians aren't trying to scare anybody. They are trying to tell people what the bible says. Because they don't want anybody to go to hell. Take a look at what's going on in the world today, then look back 1 year, 5 years, 10 years and you will see that the world is getting worse everyday. You don't have to be a christian to see that there is a problem.

You can't make someone be scared of something. Fear is something you have alone, some are scared of the ocean since they have seen "Jaws" but the movie didn't force them to be scared it was just playing on fears they already have. If you are scared of what happens after death then it would just be wise to make sure you aren't left out in the cold or in this case in a hotter region... People worry what they will do for money when they retire so to be wise they try and save and plan for the best. Just my opinion not forcing you to believe anything,,,,,

Because they believe they are helping us out. Saving us from an eternity of torture and pain. Or for some it's because their faith isn't as strong as they would like it to be, they feel the need to justify their faith by trying to make us believe.
Instead of asking new questions they fall back onto their fundamentals.

I am, myself, a Christian. But I would never try to force anyone to believe what I believe. As I do not expect anyone else to it to me. Ministering to others is not a race or a fight to try to force others to believe your faith. It is meant to put the "bug" in the ears of others so that God may begin to pull at their hearts and souls. We are supposed to give you the word of God and whether or not you accept that is between you and the Lord....

fear of GOD is the begining of wisdom-thus saying that knowing that we have a CREATOR and that CREATOR can also take us out if HE chooses. There is more to GOD than this though, but just that basic concept helps us to realize the enormity of GOD and who HE is, what HE can do even.

I came to know JESUS CHRIST as my LORD not out of fear, but out of searching for peace. I had all the fear, condemnation, torture and anguish already, so that was not the winning combo that converted me. I was tired, beat down, miserable in every way...JESUS CHRIST gave me peace, lifted my heavy burden, delivered me from the bondage I was in.

I sometimes wonder if people are actually serving the same GOD...

Yes I fear GOD, Yes I reverance HIM...But HE is also my FATHER....as children most of us were taught to be a little bit afraid of our dads' because they would tear a tail up when we did something wrong...but they still loved us even when they disciplined us...

in such a relationship, we do not obsess about punishment, but concentrate on learning to do right, to love, and to be responsible adults...at the same time, the reprocussions of wrong are also instilled because we know if we do something wrong, there will be consequences..

I hope my answer makes sense.

GOD BLESS YOU

every one should HAVE A FEAR OF GOD. GOD WANTS US TO WITNESS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SAVED OR ARE NOT FOLLOWING HIS WORD WHICH IS THE OLDEST GREATEST BOOK EVER KNOWN TO MAN our Bible.......... . Do not be pressured by anyone. find a quiet place each morning if possible before you begin your day and devote a little time to read the Word and learn the scriptures. always ask God in prayer to give you wisdom in understanding his word. Go slowly and when u are over whelmed put it aside and thank God for his word. You will soon look forward to learning more and more. find a bible that you can understand even if it is a childrens bible to start. Do not be intimidated by any man.tell them you have the word and will follow it according to scripture.Good luck and God bless you. and choose your own faith according to Gods holy word

Well I look at it like this. If I am wrong then what harm has it done I've just lived life as a better person. But if I am right then you are eternally damned to hell. I think I'd rather take my chances on being wrong as a believer than being wrong as an unbeliever.

Some might try that approach.

I would prefer to tell you about His mercy and love. His compassion and grace.
I would want you to see for yourself in the Gospels
( Good news ) that Jesus is the Truth. And that you don't have to be a Bible thumping, Holy roller to be a believer.
I would want you to know that you know without a doubt that Jesus died for you and loves you.

And Jesus had compassion on them all. And all were healed.
