Don't waste your time reading nonsense.

Before you give up on the Bible why not try different TRANSLATION of the Bible.

If you are reading the King James Bible (written practically in Old English with the "Thees" and "Thous") that is TOUGH reading.

Some other translations aren't much better.

But try getting a copy of the New Living Translation, or The Message Translation. These are written in a more casual style, yet follow the writings of the King James.

Number one..THAT will help.

Number two.. PAST that....

Some of the things IN the Bible are confusing. Jesus spoke in parables that those in HIS time understood because of the customs of the time and their lives and occupations. Today we have a hard time always understanding them as they are TO be understood.

I would suggest either going to a Christian book store and asking for a recommendation of a guide to the Bible, or better yet find a GOOD Bible-based Church in your area (don't be fooled to think they are all Bible-based OR good), and ask to join a "Seeker small group Bible Study".

If you are TRULY interested in studying/reading the Bible, this advice will help.

God Bless you on your journey.

I have the same problem but have gone to the NIV bible and before reading I pray that the Lord gives me the guidance to understand. Read several verses or a chapter at a time and read it again try to understand what it says verse by verse. Bible study is a great help too. The King James Version is also very hard for me to read that is why I use the NIV. Bible on tape is another good idea, I do better listening that reading it myself and trying to understand. But most of all do not stray from what the Bible has for you. Bless you !!

I just started to study the Bible myself. I go to a church where other members who have been christians for a while get together with you and help you to understand what it is that God is trying to tell you. It helps when there are others there! Reading the Bible from front to back without general knowledge of the Word would be quite confusing.

First of all I would suggest you find a good study Bible, you can get these in plain English translations if you like, then before during and after reading pray that God will help you understand. Each time you read a passage God can help you get a greater understanding of it. He helps you understand what you need when you need it. If a passage is confusing you can ask a member of your Church for help knowing what it means. Different things will stand out to you at different times in your life when you need them most. If you can get involved in a Bible study then make sure it is one you are interested in. Don't just go to a Bible study because it is there. You can get discouraged and board if it does not help you where you are at. There are several fun Bible studies based on different things. Like the I love Lucy Bible study where you watch an episode and study verses pertaining to it. I really enjoyed the Bad girls of the Bible study. It was interesting an really helped this former bad girl. Good luck God bless you in you search for understanding of His Word.

I agree, it is can be very confusing. In fact it is so confusing that dozens of denominations exist if for nothing else they interpret the Bible slightly differently from one another. Which version are you trying to read? I would suggest reading the book of Mormon. It is a fairly easy read, and this book can answer quite a few of life's questions. Missionaries can assist you with understanding the Bible and the book of Mormon. If it is something that you do not end up liking then you are not obligated to keep having them visit, just let them know you no longer need their assistance, and they will not come back.

I try to give you as many options as possible:

1. switch to buddhims, is less confusing
2. ask if church in your church or any near to you organize something called "alpha course" with use of Nicky Gumbel method

3. ask in bookstore for some book that will help you understand Bible better

4. do as i did
Start readin old testament
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Ecclesiastes ( i dont know if it is still old or new)

from new testament:
MAtthew, John, you can try aslo revelation

these ive read and found the most useful
but in my case i found old testament and matthew the most usful when it comes to my questions according God, Sin etc.

if you would have troubles or will be not sure about what you have read feel free to contact me other by e-mail or yahoo msger.
my mail is as my nickname here

please remember that Bible has been written as law, and every law can be interpleted different by different people,
as you didnt state which part of Bible causes your trouble I dont know how big is your understandent of this cases,
I personally read bible from like 5 years now.
i started when i was 15.

what age are you ? as this is also important to start reading bible with some kind of knowlage, as law never was and wont be easy, especially the one written by Wise Men.

beside law/rules in bible you can find guide as in Eccle.

It is very confusing because there is a tremendous amount of information but it is hard to put in the right context. It really takes some serious study and help from God to understand it. Keep trying and if you want you can email me. I know some people that are very learned on the bible. A lot of things do amazingly make sense, even science if you understand what that book is talking about.

Accept a Bible study with Jehovah's Witnesses and acquire a New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures from them, they will give you one free. It is the most accurate translation to date, and puts God's name back where it belongs in the Bible, nearly 7000 places. Jehovah's Witnesses will be happy to help you understand the Bible. And then attend some meetings as well at your nearest Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. There are 5 meetings a week and open to the public, you will be warmly welcomed.

The Bible can, indeed, be confusing to the caual reader. But to those who STUDY it, the book is remarkedly orderly and to the point. You should get a concordance if you want to do self-study.

Otherwise, investigate the adult education programs at a nearby religious college for a introductory course to the Bible.

If you are looking for salvation and the healing of a hurt or void in your life, you have taken the first step toward reconciliation with God and that is good. Allow a strongly-anchored Christian to assist you. That's what our religion is all about anyhow. Helping one another.

And pray. Get into the habit of praying--and expecting results!

Finally, wait in all this for that quiet tap on the shoulder from the Holy Spirit who will be asking you to surrender yourself to God.

Well, really finally. Once you set out to find God, Satan will throw down every trick he has in your pathway. You WILL suffer for this journey. But the conclusion will be sweet victory and the complete freeing of your self from all its burders.

And that's a promise!

There is a translation called "The New World Translation" that is in clear and modern English that's easy to understand. Also, there is a new book out called "What Does the Bible Really Teach" published by The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Jehovah's Witnesses that gives very clear answers and teachings from the Bible. If you are interested, you can email me at hrmartinez05@yahoo.com or go to the website www.watchtower.org and go to contact us and fill in your information. One of Jehovah's Witnesses will come to your door, then you can request a copy. If you do this, you will come to understand the Bible, I promise!
