First advice - ask your doctor. If you can't, check parenting web sites for advice. Try "askdrsears.com" or a site such as Gerber or Parenting that give advice. My advice - Breast milk is best, but it is not for everyone. Yogurt is great for getting calcium if your baby does not care for milk. However, formula is fortified with many other essential vitamins. If your baby is on solids, try a fortified baby cereal and mix it with a little formula, breast milk, water, even apple juice or baby apple sauce. It is best to start with rice cereal. Stay away from wheat until later as children can have allergies to wheat. It is not recommended to put baby cereal in a bottle as it can cause choking. Get one of those little, coated baby spoons and feed your baby the cereal by hand. Read the instructions on the box for mixing tips.

Yes they do need there formula. Depending on how many jars he's gettin a day. I feed my 9 month old daughter a yogurt in the morning and one medium size jar of meats mixed with vegetables and one small jar of fruit for lunch and i do the same for dinner. I give her formula in between. One in the morning, one before lunch, and one before she goes to bed. They only need 3 8oz bottles a day.

Hope that helps. Good luck

The age most Dr. suggest for them to get off formula is 12months so what you could do is make a bottle with one -two scoops of baby oatmeal and formula and about three spoon fools of a sweetened baby food, mix it in to a bottle with a #2 nipple. The baby nipples at any store will be labeled like (slow flow, #1,#2 and #3)

WHen my daughter was 6 months old she didn't want anyhting to do with baby food or formula, just the bottle. Even though I didn't really want to my doctor told me to give her whole milk, and she did just fine with it. I'd ask your doctor first if it's okay since your baby wont hardly drink the formula anymore. But he is so close to being a year old that he might say it's okay.

As you introduce more solids, it is NOT uncommon for a child to begin refusing the bottle. Count your blessings. Weaning off formula can be tricky, and it seems to me that your child is weaning himself! You should be thankful.
Especially if he is still gaining weight and seems healthy and happy.
Hope this helps
