Do what I try to do when I have my 3 yr old daughter over.

Be Creative!

Not always, but often. I'm not made of money like many people, so I can't buy her many toys. She has a lot right now already but she gets bored of them. So, I think of cheap things to do that will still give us both a fun time. (And some of the stuff I'm talking about probably isn't best suited for under 2 yr olds)

For instance, I work at a newspaper. One day I decided to show her how to make hats out of the newspaper. How cheap is that? But, man did she love it! You can even get stickers, feathers, markers, etc etc to decorate them (foam stickers you can get in stores like Wal-mart and Target are great and like $5 a bucket). Search the net on how to make the hats.

Also, start a scrapbook or photo album. Kids love looking through those.

Got a video camera? Make movies. And let them watch to see the progress.

Use your computer. You can find cool videos on Youtube.com that are great for kids. I advise being careful though, sometimes theres ones that look like they're for kids, but arent.

Take them on walks if you live where you can do that.

Take them to an arcade. $5 goes a long way in games.

Have them 'help' with making cookies and the easy stuff.

Make up your own kids stories. just draw the best you can and color them in on computer paper. Maybe the older one can help. I did something like this with mine and my niece. Even if the only way they can help is with ideas, just ask questions to find which direction they want the story to go. Should it be about dinosaurs, butterflies, space, etc.

I'd doing things like this with the older one will be great but the little one will have just as much fun trying to help or watching, destroying or whatever. It should keep him/her distracted quite a lot.

I was in the same predicament as you were at one time. I will admit it's not an easy task to complete. I'm sure by now you know what to do with your 19 month old, just put the baby in a baby backpack and go... to the park, read books, take a walk and play I Spy, etc. While the 19 month old is taking a nap (or watching tv for 30 minutes) is your special time for your 8 month old, play together with his/her toys, read a book (or two), pop in a tape/cd and sing and make movements with their body (clapping, patting their legs, letting them dance in your lap), you can even exercise with your baby. Lay on your back and lift them up and down like you're lifting a weight but play airplane instead. Have them sit on the floor and while you're standing up pick him/her up kiss them then lift them above your head and put them down on the floor. And if you don't have to the money to buy the best of the newest whammy bammy toys, you just make lots of fun with what you have, I think it makes you and the child more creative which is more beneficial for their future. Good luck :-)

spend half the day outside of the house if you can. parks are brill. library (most do story sessions specifically aimed at under threes. parent/carer toddler groups(don't be shy. i've yet to find one that didn't make me feel welcome.) tumble tot sessions. (leisure centres run these, average cost being a couple of quid with a sibling reduction.) invite other mums and kids to your place. yours will love the company and the invites will be returned. music/songs and rhymes cd/dvd. don't just put it on and think you can have a coffee. get on your feet and show them how it's done.
when they've gone to bed spend half hour planning your next day. maybe make some play doh so it's all ready for the next day.
rotate your toys so they are not all out at once. have something different out and ready for them each day they get up. ie pop up tent maybe with balls in or dressing up clothes box or building bricks. try to make each day new and exciting.
good luck and remember the more you stimulate their senses at this age the brighter they will be. before you know it they will be off to school and you can be proud that you have given them the best preparation and start through simply playing WITH them.

They even shade nonetheless in the event that they are bored. additionally as somebody else stated the Nintendo DS video games are surprising for preserving them occupied. right here interior the US they are approximately $one hundred thirty yet they do play for an prolonged time on them. Or advise to their parents in the event that they already have one to convey it. hand-held video games could be an incredible theory too. i think of those are approximately $10 each and every. they have yahtzee, hangman, and a few others. I think with this question that the lady is trying to do just what you are saying to do ToM C.

There are books that appeal to 0-3 year olds, that you can read to them, and they can hole, as the pages have different textures, and children of that age like to touch and feel their way around the world.

Just dumping kids infront of the is a lazy way to bring up kids, when I have kids, I intend to spend as much as I can reading to them.

I have got 2 newphews, and they are both considdered to be above average in their IQ levels, this was due to my sisters reading to them when they were babies.

Arts and crafts are realli gd 4 youngs kids i loved it wen i was a kid. Get three poster paint colours yellow, red and blue (the three primary colors) and mix the rest colors which is good 4 the older child. Also gte some thick paint brushes. If they watch childrens shows such as CBEEBIES go to www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies and print off coloring pictures of their favourite characters.

spend time with them! motherhood/parenting is becoming almost extinct these days studies have shown. take them out to the park, kick a ball around, make the most of the weather! and in the evnings, rent out a dvd or go for a bike ride

possibilites are endless, and i'm not even a parent!

Try taking them to the local park for a walk. The fresh air will do them & you good.
Also if they have not been before it will grab their attention more.
You could maybe enrol them in a good playgroup.
