As the husband of a good cook, and a decent cook myself, I would like to occasionally surprise her by baking her something special. the problem is, that while I have mastered the art of the outdoor grill and range top cooking, I simply cannot get anything to bake right, even following recipes. Are there any good basic baking skill references available either online or in print to help this willing but clueless man in the kitchen?

Get a copy of Professional Baking III by Wayne Gisslen. It is the textbook of choice for many culinary schools.

the foodnetwork website has a million recipes and most are simple enough to follow... giada de laurentis has a lot of yummy baking recipes that are easy... once you get the hang of it you can go into the other chefs sites and find great recipes... sandra lee, paula, and emeril have easy but delicious baking recipes too...
