The truth is that most religious people, or people who think they are religious use these answers for some of the following reasons:
1. They really don't have answers to your question them-self and can only quote the rhetoric they have been forced to hear.
2. They are on a mission to convert as many people as possible, and they think that answering with religion will make them look smart and make you want to join.
3. They are really gaming for points and don't care what the question is.
4. They think that religion is the answer for everything including how to write a computer program.
Hope this helped.

If a person cannot--or, rather, will not--abide by a simple request made from a Yahoo! Answers user, it in no way means that he or she cannot or will not abide by the Bible. A Yahoo! Answers user is not the authority on and truth of the world--and so choosing not to abide by his or her request is fine, and it does not indicate anything more than the fact that a person made the choice not to follow the request of another human being. It does not mean that the person is incapable of following the truth of the world.
In other words, your if-then clause is a logical fallacy.
Next, if you ask someone to answer a math question and yet request that they refrain from using numbers, equations, and theorems, then you are asking for an answer that probably has nothing to do with math. In other words, say you ask: "What is the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle when side A is 6 feet and side B is 8 feet, and how did you calculate it? Please answer without referring to the Pythagorean theorem and without using numbers." What kind of answer do you expect to receive here? Maybe the answer you're looking for is, "Shrimp salad." Which is an answer, although it does not satisfactorily or truthfully resolve the question.
So, if you are asking about Christianity or something in the Old Testament, and you request that the Bible not be quoted, then you may get an answer like "Shrimp salad" if one abides by your "simple request," but it will be a useless answer.
DUH.

The Person probably answered that way because
1) They figured you wanted a true answer.
2) True answers are found in the Bible.
3) Their answerings are verified through that which is in the Bible= so they are quoting their source.
Your next question was:how are one able to abide by the teachings of the Bible if one can't abide by the simple request YOU made.
Are YOU God? Think not.
So who has to abide by your requests? Your dog alone.

most people think "citing" a book gives you some sort of credibility... it's how we've been born and raised (bibliography REQUIRED for essays, etc). also, the bible and other types of written text is usually seen as either enlightened, wise, or at least academic/knowledgable to some degree.. so it's easier to assume that someone will be able to understand what u say thru some kind of example given from a text that has been published for years and years to "hope" to give some type of credibility. if u do not want to hear any biblical text cited, and would like to hear real life examples, etc, that's perfectly fine. i think once u can get past the fact that it's "the bible" and automatically assume it is something negative that "tells u what to do", and just read it as something that may (or may not) help you see something positive in your life, that's the only way you can actually understand and apply it to your daily life.
also, being open minded to reading religious works (whether it be the koran, etc) doesn't mean you HAVE to believe in those things.. it just means u are open minded enough to search and LEARN about historical text that people have been praising for thousands of years..that way the more you learn and understand, the more you can choose for YOURSELF what you want to believe, and ignore what anyone says or thinks about you, and in turn u will find no need to judge them.

If you read the Bible you would know that all the answers to all questions are found there. So, the reason that people quote them anyways is simple- THEY FOUND THE ANSWERS THERE..... DUH! If people are quoting scripture and trying to help others prosper through The Word, they are abiding by the teachings of The Bible and doing what Jesus would do.
So, I pray that you will be blessed by my response.

I have to abide by the bible. I dont answer questions with out scripture if there is scripture that applies. Jesus answered satan with scripture every time while in the dessert. If it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me. What are you afraid of when the bible is quoted? Afraid it might take?

They do it because they are crazy, have a closed mind, are blinded by faith and a totally incapable of independant thought...
Ok listen to this :
" Luke 7:18-19
John's Disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, he sent them to the Lord to ask, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we excepect someone else?" "
Whatdoes THAT have to do with the question which was asked... I hope that it's just randomly spouted crap in an attempt to be funny because if not the guy that quoted this is wired the wrong way...
That means nothing to anyone who hasn't had their noses pushed in to a bible for the past fifty years... Nothing at all...

If all you look to for answers is the bible, it is all you know. You won't get any answers from people that can't stop quoting the bible. Maybe the crazy Mrs Paige will make an appearance and quote it though...

Christianity is based on the Bible. Saying things without quoting the Bible would be like coming up with examples and not citing the books you stole the ideas from. It would be plagiarism, and God knows how much we detest plagiarists nowadays.

We all must have a source for our beliefs, if you want to know about anatomy you do not consult a book on rocks. So when you ask a bible question you should not expect an answer from a wood working manual.
