How old are they?? Some older cats are arthritic, and play is not appealing to them as its painful. B uy them catnip toys, and sprinkle catnip leaves on the rug for them to roll on. Cheap table tennis balls on a hard floor make brilliant toys Have you thought about asking a vet; they may be unwell, or anaemic. A vet may be able to advise on a tonic for them, also. Try the catnip; if it doesnt work, your cats are not well. Good luck.

The more the cats get used to playing with you, the more they will want to play. A bit of string with some folded paper tied to the end is usually a winner

Paint them blue (or a colour to match your house)
We have two cats who didn't bother with toys until i bought this mouse on a stick they loved it so much i had to get more & so far they have managed to "kill" 9 of them in 2 weeks !!!! and i have never seen them so active or happy as when they "killing" it

Well it could just be their personality.
I'd try some newspaper rolled up into ball and fastend to a bit of string, then dangle it for them. Most cats will go for it.

Give them false beards.
From dull and unfriendly they become worldly and wise. Then you can amuse yourself asking them questions.

Cats are weird and have a mind of their own. I don't know what you'll be able to do. Maybe buy toys and play more often with them.
