Everyone loses between 40 & 120 strands a day, depending on how much hair you have, your age & your hair's growth cycle. People with fine hair tend to have more of it & therefore will lose more of it than their thicker-haired sisters & brothers. Your hair also thins as you get older, particularly after menopause for women, but the thinning will stop & not continue as it will for men.
Here are some factors to take into consideration for common hairloss:
1. Seasonality. You'll lose the most hair in the fall -- typically November and December when hair reaches maturity in its growth cycle.
2. Diet. Hair loss can occur through poor dieting, tight ponytails, even with age.
3. Pregnancy Some women experience hair loss with pregnancy or as part of post-pregnancy hormonal changes. Other women experience hair loss when going on or off (usually off) the birth control pill.
4. Illness Sometimes it happens as a result of illness. Even stress, excessive weight loss, iron deficiency & thyroid problems can cause hair loss.
If you're really worried, ask your doctor. I hope that this helps~

OMG - I had the same problem. Mine lasted about six months - my doctor told me that since my body had gone through nine months of changing it may take that long to go back to normal. Did you have some post partum depression to go along with that? Is this baby the first? they are all related. Hang in there, it won't last forever! The good news (for me, at least) is when my hair did stop falling out, it came in even thicker.
You may want to consider a short hair cut for the time being - it's hot so people will never know you cut it b/c of hair loss
Good Luck!

YES! My hair went crazy after my son's birth, and it was almost six months before it evened out. I breastfed both of mine so my OB said that can contribute to hormones being out of balance longer than if I formula fed him. I had really long hair (to my waist) so it drove me nuts to have strands falling all over the place so I cut it to above my shoulders and that helped keep the problem to a minimum. Good Luck!

I know that some lose their hair during pregnancy.
I've never heard of post partum hair loss, but maybe if you are breast feeding that would make sense.
Maybe ask your doctor about taking some vitamins for it.
