...Make up the lies of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny?Only to let their children down when they find out the truth. And what do Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny have to do with the Bible and religion anyway?Adults can lie but children can't?It sounds confusing and conflicting.

It is conflicting.

I believe that the reason adults continue to use Santa and the Easter Bunny to trick children because it is easier to motivate children to embrace the true meaning of the holiday with things they can identify with. (if you be good you will receive gifts).

It also teaches children that you do not have to visually witness a good spiritual presence to believe in it which is similar to how Christians are taught to believe in God, the downside to this is that Santa Claus is not a real person.

Dear my children know about Santa Claus who we call St.Nick. They know the story and the know that he personifies selfless giving. One cannot give a gift to Christ so one gives anonymously to others. We play St. Nick now by giving to Toys for Tots and other organizations. There is a difference between a lie and a symbol. As for the Easter Bunny we do not do that.

Peace Be With You,
Debra

Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are myths not lies. You are letting you child believe in the myth and letting them discover on their own what a myth is when they realize the two are not real.

the easter bunny is from a pagan belief
the goddess Oestra (the namesake of Easter) saved a birds life from winter by turning it into a bunny, but it was a magical bunny that could lay eggs.
Santa Claus started out as Saint Nicholas who was an actual person. different legends got attached to him over the many years, but he always was a giving person
