agree with above answers. if it is a bladder infection you will need antibiotics. for the future, consider acidifying your urine.
we used to give our "at risk". patients 250-500milligrams of vitamin C (also called ascorbic acid) three times a day. the bacteria seems to thrive more in an alkaline environment. additionally, cranberry or blueberry juice. it doesn't truly prevent or cure bladder infections but it makes the lining of the bladder less responsive to harboring the bacteria.

If you have a true infection there is no way to get rid of it other than antibiotics. The OTC meds just help rid you of painful urination it will not get rid of the infection. Call the doctors office and talk to the nurse she will tell you the same thing, I know I have been a nurse for 5 years dealing with this on a daily basis...im not trying to sound rude but it is serious and the general public does not under stand that the OTC meds cant get rid of the infection, just the pain, I have seen some very bad off people come in the office because they realized it too late

Uristat does not work, the reason it says don't take for more than 2 days is because it is meant only to be used when you can not get in to see a doctor (such as weekends).
You can buy the AZO Standard (OTC). It will turn your urine reddish orange the same as the medicine the doctor will give you along with an antibiotic. If you are in a situation where you can not go to the doctor, take the AZO plus drink as much Cranberry juice as you can. Mixing the water with the Cranberry juice will dilute the juice down more. And you have to make sure it is pure cranberry juice, no extra flavorings such as apple. If you have not found any relieve by Monday you need to see the doctor. Before you start taking the AZO, pee in a cup or something so you can tell if you have blood in the urine, if so you pro-bally need to go on to the doctor or to the Emergency Room, because that can be signs of a kidney stone.

I agree with Audra. Please do not delay in getting this treated. A bladder infection can too easily evolve into a kidney infection and that'll really spoil your holiday a lot worse than not treating it. By all means, keep drinking plenty of fluids but DO NOT DELAY. Get in to see a doctor, even if it's in ER. Do it. Now. Go. Go. We'll wait up for you. EDIT: @ SheSaid, yes, antibiotics can cause yeast infections but you can buy a yeast infection kit (cream and ovules) at the same time as antibiotics. UTIs are best treated by antibiotics. Period.

Unfortunately, the only thing that will cure it is an antibiotic, which you need a prescription from your doctor for. Some people find cranberry juice helps in preventing urinary tract infections but they certainly don't cure one. Try drinking some along with lots of water until you can get to a doctor to get an antibiotic. It certainly won't hurt.

Push fluids. Also, wash after every time you use the toilet with a squirt bottle of water.

You probably still need an antibiotic. 5 days of Cipro should do the trick. You can continue on the Uristat, it's not going to hurt. They just put that on the bottle so you don't keep covering up your symptoms when you really need an antibiotic as well.

Cranberry juice is already suggested by others. YOu can also take Lemon water: MIx one full lemon fruit juice in one glass (6 oz) water, 2 pinches sea salt and take it 6 times a day, in case cranberry juice not available.
If you can get ayurvedic medicines, one med i can suggest: "Bangsheel" 2 tab with water, twice a day for 14 days will take care of UTI (Urinary track infection, be it in bladder, ureter or kidney). IN case other ayurvedic meds are avaialble to you but not bangsheel, i can suggest alternatives.
But this advice should not be construed as substitute to your visit to licensed doctor in neighbourhood.

Stop eating sweets, bread, cheese, drinking alcohol or ingesting anything else that would cause fermentation for awhile. Take alfalfa herb to alkaline your blood because you are in a very acidic condition. Eat lots of plain yogurt and take some acidophilus tablets, too.
