why won't Jehovah show now? If when Elijiah asked he did prove his existence to the people then, couldn't he do this for us today?

There are many non-believers, who with this demonastration it would prove once and for all Jehovah is God, the true God!

For his glory!

We need this demonstration, I call for it. I call for the prophets of the flying spaghetti monster to have a contest of whose God will show up with the priests and ministers of Christianity,

Couldn't the true God once and for all on CNN and MSNBC come down from the heavens and take up bull meat placed on an altar? It would be so awesome, I would stop being a non-believer, I know the Bible says not to test God but this has been done with Elijah and it would be for the greater glory of your lord and savior Jesus the Christ!

No my dear, it wouldn't work. Wanna know how I know?
Because it didn't work then either. Sure, the people were very impressed and started praising God. For like 5minutes or so.
Sadly, this incident did not cause the nation of Israel to turn around and follow their God.
When King Ahab (he was king when this happened) died, King Ahaziah his son became king. Here's what the Bible says about him:
1. King 22, 51 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.
52 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, because he walked in the ways of his father and mother and in the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

Jesus himself worked many miracles before multitudes and still the people doubted him.
I think no miracle could convince our generation of God's existence.
If you as a person though, want to get to know God and ask him to reveal himself to you, I believe he will!

Miracles alone do not build faith. History has proved that time and time again. Hello, the Israelites had experienced the most amazing salvation and deliverance from the Egyptians at the hands of God, and Moses is gone for a few days on a Mountain and what do they do? Build a calf to worship.

What about the disobedient angels, the demons, who once had the privilege of looking upon the very face of God. (Matthew 18:10) They do not doubt the existence of God. Indeed, “the demons believe and shudder.” (James 2:19) Yet, they have no faith in God.

Ambition, pride, and greed are factors that have moved many to shut the doors of their hearts. You would still not believe.

As far as Jehovah is concerned. There are over 6 million people earth wide that have faith in him. Jehovah's Witnesses exercise faith in God and his Word. With the help of his spirit, they are able to understand the Bible’s teachings and its predominant theme—the vindication of Jehovah God’s sovereignty by means of his heavenly Kingdom. They accept the irrefutable proof that Bible prophecies mark our time as “the last days,” and they have faith that God’s promised new world is near at hand. (2 Timothy 3:1-5; Matthew 24:3-14; 2 Peter 3:13) So, keep watching for that fire from heaven...it will come.

He could do that, but that would kinda do away with the whole faith thing. If God proved Himself, then we wouldn't need to have faith that He is there. And who's say that He hasn't been giving you the signs, but you just haven't been paying attention? The Lord wants nothing more than for you to confess your sins, believe in Jesus Christ and join Him in heaven someday. Maybe you just haven't noticed the ways He's been trying to get your attention.

Jim Darwin is a nice friend, I am glad he wasn't out casted from yahoo! answers. about the question: when the Israelites were in suffering this is a signal of a offense to God and vice-versa. why then, in the case of Baal and His worshipers, the same wasn't happen? what bible thumpers don't say is the Elijah talk about God, but could be El, Baal, Yahweh or whatever, since the Hebrews worship many gods in many names.

Well, do you really need him to prove Himself? The proof is all around you. Why do you think we see so many beautiful things in nature and beautiful people (not physically). There is no reason for Him to prove Himself to us. We are told to have faith like a child. Children don't ask for this proof that something exists, they believe it does because they are told to believe. It is when we grow up and start listening to society that we loose this great belief. Listen to the Jars of Clay song Faith Like a Child. Good Song.

Every day God shows Himself to people, and many can't see Him because of disbelief. We are not to test God, He does not respond to demands, He does respond to faith, to a Earnest heart. Your call for silliness to have a contest with God has just opened the door for demonic attack in your life, silly goose. Of course, we know there is no such thing as a flying spaghetti monster, but hey, satan doesn't care what names you use, even silly ones like that, to have the door open to him to come in.

There are life and death in your words, I suggest also, that you start to speak wisely and have life.

And what happened the next day. They were back to worshiping Baal. What happened after G-d revealed himself at Sinai? The Golden Calf. G-d showing himself violates our free will (that he gave us).

Lastly Elijah was a Prophet, Prophecy ended over 2000 years ago.

Here is a better one in 1 Kings 20:35-36:

Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him
