In my opinion, Northwest is the worst. Their customer "service" is extremely unhelpful and often rude, they lose luggage, they treat the customer like cattle, and they look for all sorts of ways to nickle and dime you once you've booked. The latest is charging $15 to choose your seat! After my last experience where they tried to keep $700 of my money, I will never fly with them again. So, are there any good or at least better domestic airlines?

Any answer you get here for what is the worst airline will probably be heavily colored by one experience. Everyone has a horror story and no ailine is immune. Some people will never fly certain airlines while others will swear by them. Personally, I will never fly Continental again (weather delay led to late arrival in EWR from London, could not get me to Chicago O'Hare that night and it was only 6:30 PM, many other things, generally did not seem to care). But I've flown NWA a number of times without incident. I haven't seen that $15 charge to choose your seat though. I know some seats cost more (for some inexplicable reason) on NWA. However, I do think the cost cutting on NWA is becoming somewhat obvious (no free snacks).

I think for short flights every airline kind of looks the same. For longer flights I think you notice more things: the entertainment, the service, the food, etc.

To Comment below: sorry, I didn't mean to imply I was blaming them for the weather dealy, I just wanted to explain why I was delayed. Didn't want to bore people with a long explanation of my crappy trip

Jet Blue right now is the best in terms of price and cabin comfort. You have personel T.V.'s and leather seats. I fly American alot because of frequent flyer miles. I would have to say United has the best network. In terms of the worst airline, I think those little, yet still expensive airlines such as midwest and frontier are the worst. the one time I flew on northwest, it was from San Francisco - Minneapolis and i think the only real problem I had was the legroom under the seat in front of you. At the time, I thought it had bad food until I traveled from San Francisco - Paris on Air France. Even though that was an international ailine, that was deffinetely the worst airline I have better been on.

Ok, for the previous comment, how can you blame an airline for a weather delay?? You should talk to God on that one.

As far as an airline treating you like cattle, you must be thinking Southwest. THAT is a cattle call for you right there. Secondly, I HATE the all 737 fleet.

Northwest im not a fan of because they are union, but they were a partner of the airline i worked for.

the best....well it depends if you are flying coach or first class. when i fly i usually fly american or continental first class and it is very nice and pleasureable (for a flight). but when i fly coah i fly jetblue. i find it is better than first class on some airlines. the have nice leather seats with personal tvs in every seat, they also serve dunkin donuts coffee! but for the worst...i would have to say united. i fly flying from lax-indianpolis to go see family and we were supposed to have one layover, but we had 5!!! it was awful and it wasn't winter, it was summer. that was one of the worst days of my life (seriously we had plane trouble on one, got stuck in a thunder and lightening storm) that day couldn't have gotten any worse. so now i try to avoid united as much as possible unless it's a nonstop flight! but i would also say northwest does not have the best customer service.

American Airline is really bad. Never seen such tiny seats, the food is awful and god forbid you ever take an AA flight from St Martin... the ground shift is terrible.
