Yes they are supposed to be celibates but this has been going on in the Catholic Church for century's, it just gets more publicity. If they are not impregnating females, they are abusing little boys. Just goes to show that everyone can be tempted.

Pope Alexander VI had 7 illegitimate kids from several mistresses. Celibacy is not a commandment, but an arbitrary bylaw that has no founding in religious text. In fact, it's an arbitrary assessment that only the Catholic church follows. That, and the raping of young alter boys.
However, in order to understand religious hypocrisy you have to have a good grasp on the concept of absurdity. Religions are famous for making rules and setting standards but often fail to live up to them. In Christianity there is a mechanism to deal with failure, either through confession or by getting "born-again". From my readings on the psychological makeup of strong believers, they actually feel no guilt or remorse for their actions after they repent their sins. So, the Archbishop of Abortion's confession removes any responsibility he might have to live a moral and just life. If you can't live by your own morals, how can you ever be expected to live up to anyone else's?

Read the story carefully. It was the aide, a single man and a layman, who got his girlfriend pregnant. It was not the cardinal. There is nothing in the story to suggest that the cardinal failed in his promise of celibacy.
Of course, the conduct of Dr. Iverleigh is reprehensible and is incompatible with the standards of the Catholic Church. That's why it's entirely appropriate for him to have resigned.

Yes their is hypocrisy in Christianity. It is full of men and women who make mistakes, some big, some little, some like this cardinal who ashamed other Christians. Christianity is not to blame, that individual is responsible for his failings and will have to answer for them just like the rest of us. You can not judge Christianity on the acts of some of its members. That's like judging all Americans on the works of a Timothy McVeigh or all baseball players on the character of Pete Rose. Christianity teaches that you should love people like you love yourself and to forgive those who do you wrong. I believe the world would be a much better place to live if these principles were truly embraced as much as the me first (selfish) philosophy that currently exists in our society.

I've read enough questions and answers on here to make a few final statements on the subject of religion... Don't ask me why I'm doing it in this thread, I don't know... It's just somewhere to post :
(a) Religion is a sick mixture of hypocracy, irony, twisted truths, lies and brainwashing...
(b) Blind faith means a closed mind...
(c) People with faith in God rarely have faith in progress.
(d) People with faith in God rarely have faith in other religions.
(e) People with faith in God rarely have faith in people without any faith.
(f) Religious people will tell people that they will go to hell, and some of them say they hope they will burn for all eternity when they do... Which when you think about it is a pretty sick thing to say someone...
(g) Without faith Gods are nothing, if everyone stopped believing in their Gods then all of their Gods would die as soon as people forgot that they had imagined they existed in the first place...
(h) Last but by no means least... If you add the number of gods in your religion to the ammount of people who have faith in it and then divide that number by the ammount of proof that you have that your god exists the windows 98 calculator will give you the ammount of time (in millenia) that your religion is likely to last before its followers lose their faith...
Night night, sleep tight, don't let your right hand offend you while you're in bed or you'll have to cut it off..!

He's only human, and i think one of the most important teachings in Catholicism is love, so if they loved each other why shouldn't they profess their love?
It does not say in the Ten Commandments that you should not have sex, by the way, although i understand that there are different rules for the clergy.

CHRISTIANITY IS NOT ABOUT BEING A PERFECT HUMAN BEING. RATHER, IT IS ABOUT TRYING TO BE PERFECT JUST SAME WAY AS GOD IS.
BUT OUR GREATEST UNDOING IS BEING IN THE FLESH AND IT IS EASY TO BE CORRUPTED BY THE FLESH. DON'T FORGET THAT WE ARE ALL FIRST, HUMAN BEINGS BEFORE BEING CHRISTIANS OR WHATEVER.
WE CHRISTIANS BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE THE GRACE TO BE FORGIVEN OUR SINS IF WE DO NOT GO BACK TO THEM.
FINALLY, THERE REALLY IS NOTHING GAINED MOCKING ANY RELIGION.

Liars live in all parts of society. They live in Universities, churches, hospitals, laboratories, just about everywhere. Does that make you feel safe?

People can't not sin, they're born sinful.
But he could have not sinned in that manner, people do have some self control after all.
