Can't these people think for themselves and do their own research? Why can't they see they're being manipulated?

Rico: I'm actually much different than the televangelists I criticize. I don't try to manipulate others in order to meet political ends or to line my pockets. I go to Yahoo!Answers simply to ask questions, answer questions, and express my opinions.

bluffmike: My guess is that you're one of the ones who send money to the televangelists. You know what they say about a fool and his money...

piraterachel: Well, actually, I'm not an atheist. I'm a Deist, but unlike a lot of other people who believe in God, I believe that God gave us gray matter for a reason, and that we should use it. And the reason why these fools keep sending them money is because they aren't using what God gave to them.

We all want to have the God's true religion... except... everyone forgets to see... we are all made in God's own image, prophets are all humans and (guess what???) bible, koran, histories are all written by us humans! We squabble over our differences... when we start to touch and affect earth... earth will purge us out of its system like a bad disease!
Ask then... how will all religion survive... when we all go extinct.. What? Can a zebra translate our deep sea-scrolls?

They can't help it. Atheists have the ability to reason beyond the inherited mental defense mechanism that is responsible for most people's belief in a god of some kind. It has been discovered that the belief in a diety who protects and brings you to a happy home when you die, is actually a natural reaction in our brains, to the knowledge that we will all die someday, and any day. This belief acts as a buffer for anxiety and depression that many would feel if it was proven god did not exist. And, we as atheists, have either reasoned above and beyond our natural instincts, or have been born without this mechanism in our brains, like a mutant with a special power to see through B.S.. So, yes, I guess we are kinda special. And, now that I know these things, I cannot in good conscience, try to force the mental security blankets away from those who obviously need it.

Televangelists has the best product-HOPE...in a world of uncertainty.
Many televangelists have a certain approach that caters to many other people who have a need to be loved and understood. Because religion is indefinite and eternal, many people seek that relief that only religion offers.
It is not what is being sold that is important. It is what is believed that triggers off that search for answers that exists within all of us that allows the televangelists to exist.
Man is a tribal creature and within our tribe as a human race, we go about seeking that which televangelists preach. A type of comfort that says 'everything is alright', and God loves you in spite of your shortcomings.
Who knows for certain. The televangelists might be right. I don't know, what it is, I don't know.

Lets face it... in a time where kids grow up playing video games rather than playing outside, we've become soft and lazy. Why think for ourselves or invest time to search for the truth when there is a televangelist willing to tell us what the truth is!
Oh, and the first answer received about how Bush became president? Puh-leeeeze! Quit being a sore loser! People are starting to have their patience worn thin by liberal rhetoric! That's why Dan Rather is being pushed out of CBS!

They fall for the say it and claim it thoughts. Many of the televangelists are all about the money and not about God. Benny Hinn, Copeland, and others are all snake oil salesmen.

There are so few true men of God out there. I can only think of Billy Graham as the only good evangelist of this generation.

Good point. It's not a new strategy, the church has been playing on people's fears for centuries. Make people god-fearing, offer a solution and watch the money roll in. I guess some people want to be directed in life, ie "let's hope this ship has a captain"

You are no different than the televangelist by coming here with your words and opinion. How does that make you feel?

People are afraid. Afraid to think for themselves. They need someone to tell them to be good. The same reason any religion takes hold of people. It promises even though life may get rough, its all going to turn out ok. Simple people, fall for simple things.

Because they are trying to fill some void in their life, I think. god and jebus might make them feel special when they are all together being "saved" or whatever they do in those churches.. Still I think they are brainwashed sheep, but I kind of feel bad for people like that.

TELEVANGELISTS ARE BAD PEOPLE
THEY ARE GOING TO HELL
-message of warning, therefore a message of love (according to the anti-gay, anti-abortion evangelicals, that is)
