Forget everything you've ever been told in your life about it. Forget about angels and souls, and all the unseen wonders that religious people spend their lives cultivating FAITH in.
Just concentrate on what you personally know from experience.
Now think about blood, and how it carries oxygen to the brain. Think about how if your head was smashed in, you would become a completely different person. Think about your heart and your liver, and your lungs, and all the work your body does to make you into the person you are.
Do you really think you would survive without all of that?
Do you really think you could be who you are without blood washing your brain with oxygen at a constant rate?
I do not believe that you could persist once the brain rotted out of your skull. I do not think there is some fairy dust "soul" that magically leaves your body when you die. After decades of sophisticated neurology, no one has found any indication of such a thing.
But if you think so, good for you. If that makes life easier, go ahead and believe what you want to.

And that's fine if you do believe that. However if you profess to be a Christian, shouldn't you follow Christian teachings? The Bible is the source (esp. the New Testament) of many of our Christian beliefs.
Read Ecclesiastes 9:5 and 10.
Read Romans 5:12.
So if there is life (consciousness) after death (unconsciousness), how is it reasonable to conclude that death is a passage to yet another life? Immortality of the soul is not a Bible teaching. Actually it's a teaching that's been with many ancient Babylonians and Egyptians and even the Greeks, and when they oppressed God's people, they mixed many of their beliefs in with God's people and caused many beliefs that are not even in harmony with the Bible to be practiced or believed. The 'immortal soul' belief is one of them.
Death is your punishment, not purgatory or a burning hell. Once you die, your soul, the very essence of you, your thoughts, everything is GONE.
Also, the belief that the soul or spirit (which are two completely different things, if you want facts e-mail me) passes on Condradicts with the Resurrection teaching taught by Jesus Christ himself. Why would he promise the resurrection of the dead (John 5:28, 29, Acts 24:15) (Resurrection literally means a "standing up again") if people already were alive in another life or world somewhere? There would be no need for Jesus to sacrifice his perfect human life so that we can gain life thru him by means of the resurrection if our souls passed on somewhere and we continued living.

Yes, I certainly believe in life after death, mainly because Jesus was restored to life after dying on the cross at Calvary. There can be no real doubt about that, because His disciples were afraid at first that they might suffer the same fate, but because they saw Him and talked to Him on numerous occasions after His resurrection, by the time of Pentecost, they were courageous enough to stand up in front of thousands of people attending the Festival in Jerusalem, and accuse them of crucifying the Messiah who had risen from the dead.
A further reason why I believe this is that we are spiritual beings; our spirit lives on in the spiritual dimension. If you look at a dead person you can see that their spirit has gone.

If you think that death is like a transition from this life to another one, you are going to diminish your fear of the unknown. That is like a mechanism of defense. I just think that You live, you die and you are done. Even though that I am don’t believe in life after death and heaven, I try to be a good person. I don’t need a reward. I just like to be considerate and respectful to those around me and I don’t need recompense.

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

Yes I do believe in life after death. when you die it is your flesh that's dead not your soul. So when your flesh dies your soul gose to either heaven are hell. Depending on how you live your life on earth. So if you go to hell your soul will be in tourment for internal life. You will remeber everything you did on earth that was wrong that you could of repented for if you believed in Jesus (which died for are sin so you can repent) and if you had belived in God( who sent his only begotten son to die for are sin) and try to follow Gods words in the bible then you wouldn't be in hell right now and if you go to heaven all your pain and worrys will go away and you will be happy because you are with God and Jesus.

Yes. I think its weird not to believe it. 'Cause what happens then, to all your thoughts and feelings and emotions and all the blood, sweat and tears you've shed to learn stuff and create things and become a better, wiser person - was it all for nothing? Then why bother?
