Read all of these answers carefully Suzi. Some are silly, some are honest and from the heart.
Read the one from Danielle S most carefully after you have read all the rest.
Hers has the most value for you if you really want to find the truth.
Consider the possibility that the things you have been told about a judgmental God may just not be the truth.
Think about why this belief is enforced with a threat of eternal damnation and hell fire. If it were true would all the threats really be necessary. Realize that these threats exist only to keep people from ever actually questioning these ideas. Why would someone be so afraid of you even questioning an idea?
God is said to be unconditionally loving. Love judges nothing, it only loves.

It's not that we want 2 go 2 hell it's just we beleive what we want 2 believe. If u believe in Jesus thats cool cuz I do too and there is nothing wrong with that. Some people just get tired of people telling them 2 worship him and go 2 church when they don't want 2. So in order 2 avoid this people just choose to not go. Not beleiving in Jesus all the time doesn't make u go to hell being an evil person and stealing and killing makes u go to hell. Besides how does anyone know if they r going 2 hell or not? Only the big man upstairs know your fate.

Hail eris kalista. in answer to your question let me quote u a zen poem A ZEN STORY
by Camden Benares, The Count of Five, Headmaster, Camp Meeker Cabal
A serious young man found the conflicts of mid 20th Century America
confusing. He went to many people seeking a way of resolving within himself
the discords that troubled him, but he remained troubled.
One night in a
coffee house, a self-ordained Zen Master said to him, "go to the dilapidated
mansion you will find at this address which I have written down for you. Do
not speak to those who live there; you must remain silent until the moon
rises tomorrow night. Go to the large room on the right of the main
hallway, sit in the lotus position on top of the rubble in the northeast
corner, face the corner, and meditate."
He did just as the Zen Master
instructed. His meditation was frequently interrupted by worries. He
worried whether or not the rest of the plumbing fixtures would fall from the
second floor bathroom to join the pipes and other trash he was sitting on.
He worried how would he know when the moon rose on the next night. He
worried about what the people who walked through the room said about him.
His worrying and meditation were disturbed when, as if in a test of his
faith, ordure fell from the second floor onto him. At that time two people
walked into the room. The first asked the second who the man was sitting
there was. The second replied "Some say he is a holy man. Others say he is
a shithead."
Hearing this, the man was enlightened.
There is no Goddess but Goddess and She is Your Goddess. There is no Erisian Movement but The Erisian Movement and it is The Erisian Movement. And every Golden Apple Corps is the beloved home of a Golden Worm. hail eris

I don't believe in the existence of hell. I believe that it was a figurative term. However, I do believe in God and Jesus.
Btw, this is not the way to go about "witnessing." You will only encounter angry and bitter people this way. You might want to try another method so you don't get yelled at by other people on here. Just thought I'd warn you cuz I've seen so many of those answers whenever other people ask religious questions that sound like "witnessing" on here.

While I think it's greatly possible that Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth, he does not have any thing that makes him akin to a deity. That explains my non-belief in Jesus. As for hell, it is non-existent so I can't go where I don't believe is even there.

Why do you believe there is a hell?
What kind of God would need a ego trip of watching us try to please him and then if we don't do it the way he "wants" he'll sent us to hell?
God is Love! A loving God would never judge, punish or show an angry action toward us.
And besides, doesn't "Believe in Jesus or Go to Hell" sound like a threat, not a loving action?

I think your question is illogical. If you don't believe in Jesus, then you wouldn't believe that your lack of belief in Jesus would cause you to be sent to hell. Therefore, it does not follow that not believing in Jesus means someone wants to go to hell.
I assume you do believe in Jesus... Did you choose that? I don't believe that you can choose to believe something or not believe something. I have no problem with your believing in Jesus, but even if I wanted to believe in Jesus, I couldn't just decide to. That's not how it works.

Why believe in a FALSE Messiah? Why buy into blastphemy on the highest order? HELL exists only to describe what you may be making of your life in the HERE & NOW and not as some future punishment for your current state of being. Many people are HEAVEN right now because they live respecting others and the environment, loving those closest to me, and having compassion/empathy for those in need. PEACE!

I am curious, though, why are you concerned with the plight of others' afterlife? Are you as concerned with the people in this life who are struggling and in need of love, support and understanding? These are rhetorical questions written to hopefully jumpstart you into thinking about what would lead you to ask this question. As stated, those of us who don't believe in Hell are not worried about going there. Quite frankly, even if it does exist, I am more concerned about being in Heaven with the people who think they will be there.

They don't want to go to hell; they don't believe in a Christian hell. I believe that God has many ways to Him, and for me as a Christian, it is through Jesus.
If you ever get the chance, read "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell.
