Sony is the most reliable brand, according to Consumer Reports. Just find one that uses MiniDV cartridges and go. All can transfer to PC.

Well if you want to transfer files from the camcorder to the computer, you will make sure that the camcorder has a firewire (IEEE 1394) outlet (not the right word I am looking for but this has to do) and also your computer will need the same plug. This way you can transfer it over to the computer. I have a JVC camcorder myself, but just looking at sony handycam, it looks like a very good camcorder also. (I took the JVC because it was cheapter and I didn't have that much money to use!) I hope this helps!

I just bought a Sony DCR-DVD405 camcorder that records to mini-DVDs. I LOVE it! It is really great.

Oh, and I want to add that I used to have a mini-DV tape camcorder, and I think they stink. You have to lug a lot of tapes around with you, you are always fast forwarding and rewinding to view what you recorded and then get back to where the blank tape is to record some more, they are bigger than camcorders that record on DVDs. Recording on DVDs is WAY simpler, faster, more convenient, and better in every way, and you can just pop the DVD into your computer or DVD player.
