By this I mean literally translated. Once that is done it is hard to think that many of them are at all.

yes there's a physiological reason why they do. Atheists have the ability to reason beyond the inherited mental defense mechanism that is responsible for most people's belief in a god of some kind. It has been discovered that the belief in a diety who protects and brings you to a happy home when you die, is actually a natural reaction in our brains, to the knowledge that we will all die someday, and any day. This belief acts as a buffer for anxiety and depression that many would feel if it was proven god did not exist. And, we as atheists, have either reasoned above and beyond our natural instincts, or have been born without this mechanism in our brains, like a mutant with a special power to see through B.S.. So, yes, I guess we are kinda special. And, now that I know these things, I cannot in good conscience, try to force the mental security blankets away from those who obviously need it.

Unless one is truly living there life for Christ and doing his work is not truly a Christian about spiritual it is God who put the spirits into people the life force that remains after the shell of a person is gone i don't think a lot of people who say they are Spiritual really know what it is either. There is a whole other world were Spirits dwell this is the Spirit World which inter links with our world they can see us but not all of us can see them We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the Prince of powers and Spiritual wickedness in high places this is what the Armor of God is for. These Spirits have a big influence on people in every day life and dont even know it.
Some people dont know how much truth there really might be when the Say the Devil made me do it.

They have substituted christianity for christ. Bible for the Holy Spirit. Most Christian lives on the mental level. Few ever go deep. Why ? What mentors do they have. Look at the traditional denominations, its more "church speak", than "God Speak." Don't mean to be rude, but i think too many have biblical knowlege but have no "real spirit" experience. In fact i think the irony is that they take the supernatural and spirituality out of the God they believe. They rather be puffed up in the head while the spirit go hungry. I also think, the church do not preach enough on the interior life of a christian lest a human being.

Maybe they have the wrong teaching or have no idea what spiritually is at all. You may have to show them what it is all about. Some Christians don't realize what being born again means or the infilling of the Holy spirit means. Some Christians are against the teaching of Apostle Paul about spiritual gifts and manifestations. In order to get to Heaven, we must be true worshipers in Spirit and in Truth.

Shalom

I am a Buddhist and we are quite spiritual if you mean we try to think about our innerself and feelings and interpretations all the time. I find Chritians are different from us that they are quite practical, a lot of community and group thing going on, quite simple in terms of believing in GOD who will take care of them. So they do not need to be too spiritual since there is one answer , GOD is there above them. They talk about Satan as well, which is the opposite of God I believe. So I find that being a Christian is easy and not so complicated. Whereas for us we have our soul and body and we always need to check ourselves where we are leading. There is no magic for us out there a superior being watching us.

Religion and spiritualism are two different things. In this world, many people confuse the two. Try not to judge others, but rather encourage them, teach them, and set an example for them to see. Being in the spirit of God, requires a personal walk with Christ.

Depending on who's numbers you use-15-25% of Christians are the real thing-including being spiritual. That means that 75-85% are phony either on purpose or out of ignorance.

Well, perhaps something I heard once in a play could answer it.
The sentence was: "There are very few saints, because many people wish to reach the Sunday of Resurrection , but they do not want to go through the Friday

its funny how all the fundamentalist pipe in after you asked this question. to me fundamentlaism or born agian christianity is anything but spiritual and the ones that do post assuming it is are too blinded by their own dogma.

A christian man goes to church, and sits
impatiently and day dreaming of fishing. A spiritual
man goes fishing, and day dreams of God. christianity runs
on guilt, fear, sin and is mind driven. Spiritualism
runs on truth, peace, and joy, and is Heart driven.
Spiritualism is a life style christianity is a learned
from a book and folk lore you're born spiritual!!!!

So many are call Spiritual but they are not, as well many are called Christian but they are not, for they are hypocrites in Gods eye.

There is much confusion today as to what constitutes a spiritual person, or what true spirituality actually is. You have no doubt heard someone spoken of as being "really a spiritual person." But what is a spiritual person? What does it mean in the biblical sense to be a spiritual person?

Many things today are looked upon by different groups and individuals as denoting spirituality. There is the solemn looking pickle-face who is opposed to all worldliness (any kind of amusement or recreation); there are those who dress a particular way; those who seem to be such "Bible readers"; and those who are extraordinarily punctual and precise in their religious forms; those who have put on religious morality and generosity (they keep you informed); and currently, those who swing and sway, wave and shout, and speak in tongues. But what is a spiritual person?

One who is born of God the Holy Spirit. "That which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (spiritual) (John 3:6).

One who has spiritual understanding and discernment. "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit" (I Cor. 2:9, 10).

One who minds spiritual things. "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit" (Rom. 8:5).

One who is led by the Spirit of God. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Rom. 8:14).

One who is engaged in spiritual conflict with the flesh. "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would" (Gal. 5:17).

One who manifests the fruit of the Spirit. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance" (Gal. 5:22,23).
