We got my cat neutered and declawed in August of last year. Now one of his claws has grown back out. I didn't think this was possible.

In response to sassikatz' question about someone ripping my toenails out: I would beat them to a bloody pulp. Which is the same thing I would do to my cat if he tears up my furniture. Fortunately, he's a good kitty and doesn't ever have to worry about that.

this is a venture into crazy land...
however I will say I have a cat that has been declawed and several that have not... it is not inhumane to do it... and the websites that are linked to hear are bull puckey... the bone is not cut when the are declawed and their toe is not cut off... remember ignorance is contagious...
I am probably the only human here with his nails removed... and I can speak of knowledge I was happy to get them off, and happier with out them... however...
I will say that in the best interest of the cat, if were to get lose he could not defend himself, if he needed to climb to ellude capture by a dog or what not he could not. not to mention the surgery is just that and carries all the risk of allergic reaction, infection and other risks...
I believe the only case which this is needed is when there are babies in the house or the cat has a behavioral problem that cannot be fixed and you are considering getting rid of the cat.
otherwise let the animal leave this world the way he came in... intact.
the reason it grew back would be that the nail bed or "root" as others called it was not completely removed...
you'll notice that your cat can still use its toes to grab as it did with it's claws... so the last joint was not removed as others claim...

I had a cat who grew a claw back after being declawed. I took him back to the vet and they removed it for free. Usually they do not remove the entire claw, as this is much more painful and invasive. Sometimes the part they leave behind can grow back.

Your vet botched the job. Declawing is cruel and unesscesary. You should of used soft paws instead.Declawing is the same thing as a human having their fingers cut of at the 1st joint.

I would take the cat back to the vet and insist he removes the claw again, and I would NOT pay for it.

Sure they can grow back. Your vet should have told you.
