The fruit flies seem to come from no where. I boiled some potatoes because I was going to make mashed potatoes. Well something came up, so I drained the water, and covered them back up and left them on the stove. So they sat overnight. The next day I was so busy, I was not at home until late night. The potatoes sat for a second night. Well on day 3 I figured I should catch up on housework, so I go, lift the lid off of the pot, and three fruit flies come at me.

HOW DID THESE THINGS GET THERE? IT SEEM LIKE THEY COME FROM THIN AIR. THERE WERE NO BUGS IN MY HOUSE BEFORE THIS, AND I DO CLEAN MY HOUSE DAILY, JUST DIDNT HAVE THE TIME THIS PAST WEEK. SO DONT TELL ME IM NASTY OR HAVE A DIRTY HOUSE, JUST TELL ME WHERE THEY COME FROM.

fruit flies are the kinds of creatures that are almost impossible to eradicate because they have eggs everywhere. the eggs are extremely tiny and light that it is usually a part of dust. Your pot may have a tiny gap that allows fruitflies to slip through. The stench of rank potatoes will be enough draw for them to go inside the pot.

The fruitflies probably hatched somewhere else, got in thru your window or door, and in to the pot of smelly potatoes.

The short answer is they come from eggs. Maybe you don;t want to hear this ... but many of the fruits we buy already have eggs in them, waiting to hatch. If your fruit sits around long enough, you get fruit flies.

This is one reason why you should always carefully wash your fruits after you bring them home. But even that may not get rid of the microsopic little bastards.

good question and one that I truthfully have continuously puzzled approximately myself. I used to make domicile-made wine, and earlier I`d opened a bottle there grew to become into not a fruit fly to be considered everywhere. however the minute that cork grew to become into out - there have been 1000's. It`s yet another occasion of ways a tiny little creature can outperform our human senses actually.

Because they just about do and they're the most annoying little bastards on the face of the earth. Pound for pound they're worse than a wild dog running loose in your yard.
Here's some help.
