I have never been against the spirit of community in religion. Stories like this remind some of us that it is not all bad.
Then you can read the two posts above mine and remember that a) Some people will always hate you. b) some people will turn everything towards the fanatical.

Bless you, brother in Christ. We are all called to serve God. The closest thing to heaven is a child. Material gifts are symbols of love. It is more the act of kindness, thought, consideration, and love of caring enough to give and to do than it is the actual material gift. Many of the poor, the lonely, the tired, the weary are also the forgotten ones in this world. Just merely reaching out to them, tells them they are worthy, they have value, they are cared for. The gift of the presnts was well received by the children, even though the toys will eventually break and be discarded, the act of love and caring will be with them for a life time. You are sowing good seeds. You will be blessed. God is awesome. The more you give the more he gives. There is nothing better than to actually understand God and live according to his ways. That is what the spirit of Christ is all about. Whatever man does unto God's children, he does unto the Lord.

No, there is nothing more satisfying than serving others in Jesus' Name. Jesus came to serve and not to be served, let us follow His example. When we serve others in Jesus' name, we are also serving Jesus Himself - King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Imagine how we would feel if we were asked to be a King or Queens' servant. We would feel so privilaged. How much more should we feel privileged to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
There is nothing better than fulfilling God's plan and purpose for our lives.

I think it is shameful that you think that adoration of some mythological supernatural entity is an essential element in imbuing a sense of charity within a human being. It is a natural impulse... and the fact that you cannot recognize it as a natural impulse reveals the damage that has been done to your psyche by your insidious belief system

Am I supposed to pat you on the back because you're doing work that we as humans are responsible for anyway? You're not doing anything for Jesus...you are doing it for humanity. It's nice that your Church does social work and attempts to help those in need. I urge you to continue the good work but do it because YOU feel YOU'RE making a difference YOURSELF (Jesus makes no difference...YOU DO)! PEACE!

Try selling your soul. You can live a fulfilling life of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Just as fun and rewarding. Have you ever suggested this path to some of these kids? They might like to know they have choices in life.

You mean like keeping it to yourself? If you're stuck on a topic for your next bible study, suggest Matthew 6:5, specifically, if not the whole chapter. Here's a preview:
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Nice to see there are people who get it. :)
We are called to serve in His name, and to live our lives as He would. What better way to do that than through service!
Keep up the great work, and I hope your story inspires more people to do the same!
