This will be the second marriage for the bride and groom and their wedding is for immediate family only. There also will not be a bridal shower, or any other opportunity to give a gift to the couple. Is it appropriate to give a card with money?

Yes, very appropriate - especially since they are not having a bridal shower. I would recommend buying them a card and a gift card to their favorite store for the engagement party - then giving them money for the wedding.

Gifts for an engatement party are just fine. Usually they are small tokens of congratulations since people will be giving larger gifts at the shower, wedding, etc. But in this case, I say give them whatever you want.

Yes, your suppose to give a gift at the engagement party- basically like the wedding- pay for your meal type of thing so you can give less if it's in their home, a little more if it's a restaurant and they are paying for your meal.

I had only been to one, my nephew's, and got a gift. Just this past weekend was another nephew's - I was thinking of what gift to get all week, but his mom phoned to confirm we were coming, and said no gifts. So we just gave a nice card full of good wishes. I don't think you should give money.
