You can hit the CTRL/ALT/DELETE buttons all at the same time. After a few seconds, something should pop up showing you which program is causing you a problem and it will allow you to shut the progam down. Sometimes you have to hit the CTRL/ALT/DELETE buttons a couple of times.
If that does not work, it's perfectly alright to hit the power button of the computer. Just hold it down a few seconds, and the computer will shut off. If you have been working on any files, be sure to save them before you cut the computer off.

Try using your button to turn off computer...This must be done by keeping your finger on it, until it shuts down...Unplug it, and then restart...It should work productively now...

you have a program(probaly from yahoo )not responding.you'll have to hit the power button unless you have the little reboot button if so hit it and repower aftertake you should be able to shut down normally.good luck

START > RUN
enter CMD
when black box pops up type shutdown -s
This should do the job.
failing that Hard reset using your power button.

you may find out what is causing the problem in the event log.
(right click at my computer > manage)
update your virus definition file and scan your pc with antivirus software (Get AVG Free Edition, http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2)
scan your pc with antispyware software too (Get free antispyware software, http://www.spyare-faq.com )
