It means deputy Son of God. (What a blasphemy)
The most disturbing is the he is also called the MOST HOLY FATHER.
MOST is in superlative degree which means that he is MORE HOLY than the Father in Heaven. (Oh my!)
If their scapegoat is that God is different and the pope is the "Father of Our Faith" (Worst!), there are still committing blasphemy BECAUSE Jesus said in Matthew 23:9
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
note that since bible is a spiritual book, it is speaking of spiritual father or the father of our faith, not of the biological one.
Are the pope and priests what you to call them Father. Beware!

They claim that the Pope's miter bears the inscription "vicarius filii dei" - Vicar of the Son of God. That would be a strange inscription for a Pope's miter, since the phrase is not and never has been a title of the Pope. His title is Vicarius Christi - Vicar of Christ.
I've never seen any words on the Pope's hat.....

The upside down cross is the Cross of Saint Peter. This symbol comes from belief that St. Peter, the first Pope, was crucified upside down, as he felt he was unworthy to be crucified in the same manner that Christ died (upright).
