I've taken Zoloft since I was 14, about 10 years now on and off, I had loss of appetite, sexual side effect (blah) but that's about it, getting off it is another story you have to do it slowly or you can get severly depressed and have these weird little shocks. I HIGHLY believe this drug helped me and I would suggest it, side effects are nothing compared to the destructive behavior and the terrible depression. If a doc says you would be better with it and it's the right drug for you I'd suggest taking it, start slow and if it doesn't work for you come off slow.

My boyfriend was on Zoloft with great results, to help him wean off of antidepressants. He had been on Paxil for many years, and regardless of whether or not GSK wants to admit it, people go through serious withdrawl symptoms from Paxil. I was on Paxil for 3 years and the only time I was EVER suicidal was when I was coming off of the drug, or if I had missed a dose.
I would definitly recommend Zoloft over Paxil any day of the week after my personal experience and my boyfriends experience with it.

I have taken this med for about 6 months, and have had no negative effects. It varies from person-to-person, but I personally have had no side effects, no weight gain, and feel much better (although I take it for anxiety, not depression). If you are a teenager, it has been known to cause increased thoughts of suicide, but it is simply important to pay attention to whether you are having these thoughts and talk to your doctor immediately.
