The bible claims the center of thought is the heart - and the bowels are the seat of emotion.

Genesis 6:5; Deuteronomy 15:9; Judges 5:15; 1 Samuel 1:13; 2 Samuel 13:33; 1 Chronicles 28:9; 19:18; Job 17:11; Esther 6:6; Psalms 33:11; Proverbs 23:7; Isaiah 10:7; Jeremiah 23:20; Daniel 2:30; Matthew 9:4; 15:19; Mark 7:21; Luke 2:35; 5:22; 9:47; 24:38; Acts 8:22; Hebrews 4:12

Genesis 43:30; 1 Kings 3:26; Song of Solomon 5:4; Isaiah 63:15; Jeremiah 31:20; Lamentations 1:20; 2:11; Philippians 1:8; 2:1; Colossians 3:12; Philemon 1:20; 1 John 3:17

It also says semen comes from the bowels - which also, incidentally, it says is where women carry babies.

Genesis 15:4; 2 Samuel 7:12; 16:11; 2 Chronicles 32:21; Isaiah 48:19

Genesis 25:23; Psalms 71:6; Isaiah 49:1

In the heart. -- The heart is an organ that pumps blood--it does not process thoughts, although the biblical writers erroneously thought it did. The word "brain" appears nowhere in the bible.
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Genesis 6:5) "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7) "And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him." (Luke 9:47) "For the word of God is quick, and powerful . . . and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12) See also Deuteronomy 15:9, Judges 5:15, I Chronicles 29:18, Esther 6:6, Job 17:11, Psalm 10:6, Psalm 33:11, Jeremiah 23:20, Isaiah 10:7, Daniel 2:30, Acts 8:22.

The word "heart" in the bible was not used in the modern sense of "emotion" because it is depicted as having thoughts, intentions, and imaginations. The emotions were usually considered to be in the kidneys

Based on what one does when making the sign of the cross, it would appear to be: the brain, the heart, the shoulders (translation: the body--so i guess that would include kidneys and lungs)...but all balanced by the heart (i.e., place palms together at approximately the heart)...and say "Amen" (Hebrew translation--> truth).

the heart and this is in part a normal use of language and even today, in modern society we talk abou the heart when falling in love

the mind is usually portrayed as dealing with the logic and facts
the heart with the emotions
the puritans would point out anything going to the heart first goes through the mind
saving faith is not just data and logic and factsm the truth, it is also loving the truth, leaning on it, trusting it, treasuring it and as a result being trasformed by the truth you love

the seat of obedience someone brought up is a good picture since we chose to do the things accorgin to the highest inclination of the heart

In the heart which is used to represent the soul or spirit of a person, meaning their innermost being. Science tells us that the brain is the organ where thoughts originate but the Bible tells us that the body doesn't originate thoughts, instead there is an invisible God given component that operates in the body that is responsible for who we are and that determines the course of our thoughts.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

Matthew 15:17-20 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

In the brain. Discussions involving the "heart" do not refer to the physical heart itself. Instead it is a figurative saying meaning your true feelings, which are also dictated by the brain.

Same place the Egyptians thought they thought--the heart.

This, of course, is why it was considered worthwhile to pull one's brain out one's nose before embalming, as well as when one is just plain being a jerk.

Those Hebrews got a lot from Egyptian thought, didn't they? Hearts, philosophy, monotheism....

Actually, I'm not curious if they actually got their monotheism from that monotheistic pharoah (or relics of his reign) or if that's just a coincidence.

I have never heard of Biblical anatomy. It is really not a premise.
Did you make it up?

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

This represents the thoughts that cause emotion in man (the ones that can get him into trouble, or vice versa).

Incidently, I heard that some Mideastern cultures think the liver is the source of emotion. "I love you with all my liver." Ugh!
