it had nothing to do with dealing directly with G-d.

the entire nation including Korah spoke with G-d at Mt Sinai

what it had to do with was Korah's greed. He was the oldest son of the second oldest Levite family. The first being Moses and Aaron.

As such he thought he should be head of the Levite tribe instead the head of the youngest Levite family was chosen to be the leader of the tribe
