Kind of a moot point since if we lived in a society without a judicial system there would be no law to take into your own hands.
Having said that,there would be anarchy so in essence rape and murder would hold the same weight as retribution by way of murder.
Summary justice would be the order of the day since you wouldnt view justice as you do now.Therefore I would guess it would be justifiable and used often.
If, as I suspect (could be wrong), you meant to ask would you kill someone who murdered and raped your child if you knew you could get away with it...I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'm sorry your question is a little too hypothetical for me. If there was no system of justice, I am sure most people would deal with it themselves. Although, you could hardly be said to be taking the law into your own hands, because there would be no law to take into your own hands.

Even with the current british judicial system I would still probably take the law into my own hands as I do not feel our current system would punish the culprit enough.

If I was a liberal, first I'd have to ask myself what I did to make them hate me and my family so. Perhaps it was my attitude towards criminals and rapists that fostered this hatred. I would sit down with other victims and have a discussion on how we could change our behavior so that the rapists and murderers would no longer feel they had to rape and murder us, and we could live together peacefully.

I would also reconsider my support for sending armed men to their houses, to kick in their doors and take away their freedom. That action is probably the reason for their violence, and it would make me realize that my child's rape and murder were all my fault for forcing these people to obey the laws, and sending over armed enforcers to make them obey and punish them when they didn't. It was my imposition of my values upon him that caused him to do this.

So, the answer is to disarm the police and prevent them from hassling people and forcing them to obey my morality. This would foster peace and harmony around the world, no?

However, my determination of what would be a fair retribution would be a difficult decision process. Even with our judicial system, I would still take matters into my own hands. If I ever had the opportunity. If the person made it out of prison alive, (most child rapists are killed in prison,) I'd be waiting outside of prison the day of their release. If he didn't make it out alive, I'd probably send the person that killed him a nice little thank you gift.

I would take it into my own hands and find the f*cker who killed my child...ill kill that person who did what they did. I can careless if I went to jail or prison. That was my child that some one raped and murdered. I'd show them rape...an d what it is...ill slice them open from down there....or if it was my daughter...id cut their d*ck off. First shove a fork through it. No one messes with my family. I would investigate and any person i see as a stranger I'd hate everyone cuz i wouldn't know till I find out. Take my childs body and get dna from the rape...then the Investigators will soon find out who it is.

I think you would have to be careful, too many people claim they would exact revenge nowadays, "I'd kick his ***" etc when infact you might receive a serious beating if you messed with the wrong people. I think the answer should be of course you would "try" to meter out your own revenge but unless you're the Terminator you might come of worse no matter how "tooled up" you (think) you are.
