Because the Pope lives in a world of ideals, and most Catholics live in the real world.

Its not just the Pope, its been official Catholic doctrine for quite some time that a married couple must be "open to life". Some American Catholics ignore this because some feel they can pick and choose what doctrine to follow. In other countries, disobedience to Catholic doctrine is less common. People should show more self control and not have sex if they are not able to face the consequences of their actions.

I think that the Pope has many problems within the Roman Catholic church. Many of them are more serious than this subject.

But within large organizations, you have such a diverse range of people. Many of those people go through the motions, as in any large church, because it settles a conflict they have in their conscious. They carry no faith in their denomination, but can say, " I go to church! I'm a Christian! "

These people live a lie.

For the truly repentant, that also trust the Lord for salvation, they are forgiven of their sins. Even if the Pope lays down a command and they are supposed to do it, those people of the latter persuation are sanctified by faith.

Okay, honestly, I read a report last year about one (that's ONE) form of birth control that induces abortions. The doctors voted to not release this information to patients. I don't remember which form it was, but I know it's not what I take (Noreethidrone tablets). If a birth control pill induces abortions, NO ONE should take it. I don't have anything against taking birth control, I don't think it induces abortions. I know Catholics who are very strict about not taking birth control, too. It's a matter of opinion. I wish we lived in a society where pre-marital sex was a myth, but that society has never existed. Until then, I think people should do what they can to prevent pregnancy. I don't think young teens and pre-teens should be on the pill, but there are bigger issues there. I hope I don't step on any toes, just wanted to offer my input.

It's just not practical to bring a child into the world everytime one wants to engage in sexual relations. This may not be the reason for everyone, but I know it is for some of the Catholics I've met. I know a doctor who has ten children now and they simply can't afford anymore. He works non-stop just to provide for his family so he's not spending any time with them as it is, not to mention his wife is doing her best to care for them day in and day out. It's not fair (or realistic) to expect other people to always be available to help and it's impossible to do it alone. In short, the Pope is doing a disservice to humanity by holding onto rules that are not working in real world applications.

Because the Pope isn't the one to pay for all of my kids' expenses, and college tuition!!!! If he would like to contribute, I'd be more than happy to have more kids, and not use birth control!

catholics have choice now, this is a modern world birth control is now practiced, why?in the past all religions did not practice birth control,so as to be able to have more of their own,war has been based on this, the practice of birth control is now to help people to limited their family's unwanted children and of course affordability in the world to day, these laws are archaic,as in the Muslim religion of not to eat pork,in the country's were Muslims were prevalent their was not cold storage there fore pork spoiled fast and would make you sick enough to die,why also do you not touch a wet dog not because it is wet but because its saliva ,a wrong interpretation,of wet dog, this was because of Rabi's.hence all religion were based on tribal protection, now archaic to 2006.but in the times these were made it was to protect each religion and its fulfillment to thrive, the world has become small with mordern tech.people now have choices
