If you go through the full immigration process for another country, are you soley a national of that country, or do you then have dual nationality?

E.g. if you're british and emigrate to australia, can you only visit britain as a tourist with a restricted length stay?

I've been back and forth with the American Embassy and the British Home Office about this one for myself. Finally, I found out that yes, you can have nationality in 2 countries as long as (1)both countries have no problem with it (ie, you're an American citizen and want dual citizenship with an "non-enemy" country) and (2) you do not hold a position of power in the country you intend to get new nationality in (MP, police commisioner, etc). Check with both sides before taking the oath of your new nationality, or you may find that your home country will take that as a denouncement of your home nationality.

Depends if you give up your citizenship to your native country. In that case you'd be able to visit but not live there as a legal citizen.
You can get a work visa for a different country and you are allowed to stay there for an aloted number of years before having to return to your native country.

The United Kingdom and Australia both allow for dual nationality - you would be able to hold passports for both countries.
