I know for a fact that Satan was a white dude with dark hair and a serious drinking problem. I unfortunately made the mistake of sleeping with him..... I've only seen glimpses of that other guy.

So that the opposite qualities of the two is clearly evident from the pictures. Pictures of persons help in leaving a permanent impression on the mind about the person and particularly when the person has not been actually seen by anyone except in dreams or during hallucinations. As a result , from the first sight of the pictures, Satan is abhorred and people develop an affinity towards God.

Because Satan is an invention of the Christian church specifically designed to discredit older religions. This is why Satan, for example, has horns. A lot of the 'old gods' had horns, such as Herne the Hunter, for example.
Lucifer was a fallen angel (Light Bringer) but is also present in older religions, representing the sun (as Diana represents the moon). Christianity has corrupted this image, bringing Satan into the fold as one-in-the-same, to convince people that their Christian god is the only true god and that all others ('represented' by Satan) are evil.
The Bible also portrays God as all powerful and not as saintly as all that. I think that modern man has over simplified things, really.

That's because satan is a nasty person. He wants to bring you down. He is so evil everyone pictures him like that. But in actual fact, he looks far worse. God is pure. He is love. He loves everyone in the world, and he loves me and you too. So we picture him as a saint.
God Bless You! =)

Artists renderings over the decades such as depictions of pieces like Dante's Inferno. What does a saint look like? I don't know but the Bible does indeed give and accurate description of Christ in transfiguration (full glory) in many places in the old and new testaments. As for "Satan" or the devil or Lucifer...always discribed as an angel of some form of brilliance or light or whatever..so...why do we picture anything? You lock in an image that appeals to each individuals mindset and go with it. It is hard to shake but what else ya gonna do? Like Mel Gibsons the Passion...if Vin Deizel had portrayed Christ, we'd prolly scoff and say...Hey! Christ had hair...so they found a guy Jim Caveezel (sp) and cast him cuz he, while being a decent actor, also fits most peoples concepts somewhat of what Christ may have looked like. There ya go! Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

The same reason why we think Jesus was white. That's just how they were depicted in those days. Ironically enough, Satan is actually seen as a beautiful individual who uses charm and lust to entice followers. How come just becuase he was cast out of heaven when he was Lucifer did he all of a sudden turn into some red guy with horns and a pitchfork?

Judaism teaches that Satan is an angel doing the work 'God' assigned to Satan to do.

first of all..there are two forces on earth...GOOD AND EVIL. Good is from God and Evil is from the devil. in the bible before Satan was evilous his name was lucifier...he was the most beautiful angel in heaven. he is the angel that lead the others to sing..he was the morning star. he had music in him...when he rebel against God...he and 1/3 of angels went to hell. society thinks that the devil is red..NO!!! he is beautiful but on the inside he is wicked. the bible he comes in the form as a angel of light. God is and will forever be a saint..he is holy, he is worthy of all the glory and all the praise. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

God is love. He is pure like snow. He is sinless. He is perfect. He is kind and caring. When humans think of these things, they often picture God in this manner which is not wrong. God is a Saint.
Satan however is not of love. He is not pure like snow. He is everything opposite from God. He is the author of lies and deceptions and deceitfulness and torment. He hates Christians and he hates God. He is the destroyer. His soul is dark and blackened. So people choose to depict him to look like a red evil dude with horns and a pitch fork. Humans find it easier to think of him this way.
