I am a breast cancer survivor, therefore I wanted to portray the strength in overcoming the obstacle in my life.

Perhaps you may wanna share what you actually trying to protray.
For language, it is not so nice to translate it directly. It will lost the meaning and theme.
Moreover, for the Chinese word, a word in itself can have multiple meaning and conotation.
My suggestion is, try explaining what you really wish to project, and I (or some others) can give a better suggestion.
By the way, åé or just å is correct for strength. But it does not sound nice for tatoo.

I would caution you on that one. 1, why do you want a symbol that you have to be told what it means? 2, how can you be sure that someone is going to give you the symbol for strength and not the symbol for, say, idiot? 3, If you were strong, would you really need a tattoo to affirm it?

It is å li4- strenth/power. Even though I do not have a tattoo ( and personaly dont want one) I have a necklace with å yong3 - courage, to remind me to have courage in life.

tap chinese symbol com have plenty of choice over there. but most of the western people will like chinese symbol of 'love'
