It's an awesome system. I am currently learning japanese with the rosetta software and it works quite well. it teaches the language by immersion. i.e. showing you pictures and then associating the sounds and words with those pictures. instead of using the translation method that most classes use. (i.e. mother = madre) It lets you choose the way that you want to learn and you can always go back and repeat a level. There are also 3 sets of cd's for every language. Each one getting progressively more involved with the last one guaranteeing that you will by 100% fluent even conversationally.

Rosetta Stone is a good program if your only option for language learning is to teach yourself. So are the Pimsleur CDs (those are audio-only, though.) However, I want to warn that it's much more effective and efficient to learn a language by taking a class (or living in a foreign country). Because language by its nature involves communication between people, there's a limit to how much you will be able to learn when you are interacting only with a machine. If you're serious about learning a foreign language, I highly recommend that you try to find the time to take a class at a community college or hire a tutor. I've studied language many different ways, and although the "teach yourself XXX" materials are attractive for their convenience, no software program is going to be better than having that personal interaction with other speakers.

Some types of language software are for technical people. If you want conversational language usage, get in touch with the Berlitz School or on yahoo search engine, CLICK ON LEARNING NEW LANGUAGES.

I tried it some months ago. It's not a bad software.
But it wouldn't be enough if you want to learn a new language well.
