I'm getting serious about wanting to quit. I know a 32 yr old female just diagnosed with emphysema:( What's your experience with stop smoking aids? What worked best for you in controlling cravings?

Probably no one else will say this but for me cold turkey and lots of gum, now and laters, suckers, mints did the trick. I've tried to quit a million times. And then I heard that nicotine is out of your system in 72 hours and patches and all that stuff just keeps putting nicotine in your body. Take a natural herb that is an anti-depressant like St Johns Wart. GOOD LUCK AND DON'T GIVE UP! Take it day by day. If you smoke don't think that you failed and it's over, you just hit a bump in the road and you need to keep going.

Tried all forms of aids to stop smoking. For me, nothing worked. The day I needed to get an additional life insurance policy because my employer was phasing out this "benefit" was the day I quit smoking. No way any insurance company was going to give me a policy that I could afford if I were a smoker. A couple of months later, a lot of applications later, I chose the policy that best suited my needs. By this time, I noticed there was money left over at the end of each pay period. Money was nice, smelling like a walking ashtray was not. Oh sure, I am the typical "one cigarette away from being a full blown smoker." I just am able to choose not to act on the impulse to smoke any longer. Money has become my "cigarette."

I've "Quit" smoking several times, and I think you basically just have to want it bad enough, to finally be, just "Flat-Out" fed-up, and turned-off, by the whole smoking thing!! I just gave it to God the last time I quit & He took away the desire.. And I replaced the hand-mouth thing with mini red delicicious, apples, and not only did I completely quit but I got most of the tar & nicotine, off with those apples!! Good-Luck, to you .......
