The opacity of the lens that develops with cataracts comes on slowly and any treatment is unnecessary until vision is affected. For example with cataracts a person is unable to see approaching cars because of blindness from the headlights. I had a wreck and had no idea the reason as I did not see the car that hit me. The surgery takes about ten minutes is done under local anesthesia. A small incision is made at the side of the cornea, the lens removed and plastic lens inserted.
