Wether it is sports TV or film, multi million dollar pay cheques are a result of a flawed system that allows business owners to charge what they like because every other business owner is doing the same. Doctors work a hell of a lot harder than oprah as do many others. If you dont go to the movies, to "voice your protest" will that have any effect? So where is your free choice? dont buy product A from billionare A buy it from billionare B, thats your choice, thats the "free" market capitalist system? Thats not capatalism, thats extortion.

I agree with you that some salaries are simply unreasonable.

However, you, me and everyone else is supporting that type of extravagance. You can buy a ticket to a ball game, whine about the price, yet sit there and cheer on your team. Consumers have the power to bring salaries down, but that would mean doing something besides whining. It would mean turning our backs on things we enjoy and things we can afford.

We live in a capitalist society. That's the reason we have the most wealthy country in the world (It's not only the really rich, but middle class who make what other country's rich make, and poor who can survive on welfare where in other countries, they would just die.) A capitalist society means that the goverment does not control what people make moneywise. And this is a good thing. If the price is tv stars who make more money than doctors, the so be it. The only reason that people complain abotu how much people make is that they are nto willing to put the very hard into becoming just as rich (which is possible in America). The reason capitalist A and B have billions of dollars (and it's more like millions and capitalist A and B are accomponied by capitalists C-ZZZZ on the same product) is because they worked hard and made something good people liked so a lot of people bought it. If you'd rather have one choice and no millionaries move to Russia.

Correct, we live in a Dictatorship form of Government. Organized crime is alive and well in America, some call it Congress. I call it what it really is. Organized crime.
BTW, now you know exactly why Republicans will never support a minimum wage increase, they want Americans to stay poor servants. They would also like to see your parents starve in the streets. The Republican plan is simple, end Social Security at all cost's. Even if they must send the USA into bankruptcy.
It is a bare face lie that a higher minimum wage forces prices for goods and services up, it does not. A increase in the minimum wage might in fact cut Oprah's pay by a million or so per year.

$309m pyr..that's more money than any of us will see in a lifetime...it's obscene, truly obscene...
1. That maybe the reason why Mexicans all want to come to the US?
2. Why doesn't she retire and let someone else have a turn...
3. Maybe she should get together with Bono - between them they could purchase a small country in Africa...with some change left over...
"The rich must live simple; so the poor can simply live"...
I still find it hard to believe that in a country with over 200 Million people; the best u can come up with on TV is Oprah and Dr Phil???...and of course George Bush Jr. as president...??; God shows what he thinks of money, by the people he gives it too. PS Oprah needs to make an Appointment with Dr Phil.

You need to work on your envy. Oprah doesn't 'get' that money, she's EARNED it. She's created a product that people pay money for - they do this freely of their own will.

Now, I don't particularly like Oprah, nor the muddle-headed inanity that this the Oprah show or any of her other stuff, but to get all incensed about how much she makes is childish.

People have always paid more to be entertained than to be serviced. That's human nature. No amount of government control can change human nature. To attempt to do so is the stuff of tyranny and hatred - communism.

So, grow up and get over it. Stop worrying about what other people make and take care of your own life. Your angry envy only serves to poison your mind and blacken your soul.

Oprah may not appear to do a lot, but she does.

She owns many companies besides HARPO and O Magazine. She donates a lot of the money to her angel network and other organizations, plus she helps people navigate the world that have just given up on finding their way or they never knew how to begin with. I think her money is well deserved and earned.

As for doctors, I think they need to make more money just to cover the cost of having to have malpractice insurance. However, it is the public and companies holding that back because we do not want to pay more for insurance ourselves.

Personally, I think teachers should be making the most money. They have one of the hardest jobs in the world.

And just whom is going to decide how much you make? while I am not a fan of Oprah by any means she did not just wake up one morning and become a millionaire.Just becuase you dont see the labor she has put into her career dont just dismiss it.If someone wants to pay for her services thats between her and them.Dont like it ?Then feel free to boycott her and her sponsors.Welcome to Capitalism the best and fairest economic system in the world :)

Why shouldn't a person be rewarded for what they do . Oprah generates much more money back into the economy. She has employees of her companies ,her advertisers employ millions and that in turn not only gives them a paycheck to support their families it also gives them buying power .Its a cycle of money being generated and cycled back into the worlds economy. I admire any person that has in our vernacular "made it". Why do you advocate a boycott of people with money? That sounds just a tad over reactive to your own financial place in life. I do not envy or covet anothers wealth or attempt to stop them from making money(unless I know them to have corrupt or inhumane practices in their operations)Instead why not learn to increase your own income ,buying power etc. I don't understand how you call it extortion when its not in any way . We are free to buy or not buy whatever we want or can afford. It works.

Charles Schulz earns $30-60 million a year... and he's dead.

Salaries aren't the best way to earn money. Still only 24 hours in a day.

Call it extortion if you like! the fact of the matter is the woman owns her own company and produces her own movies...........
Isn't that what being an entrepreneur is about? owning your own in order to have the right and privilege to charge whatever your heart pleases! Do you have any gripes with Bill Gates? I presume your a jealous male right?
