We have different worldviews, histories, priorities, morals, cultures, etc. If one religion were to actually be adopted, it would have to be so watered down and dumbed down to appeal to the masses that it wouldn't be worth having. Besides that, who would decide on the tenets of this world religion? Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world---so would their concept of reincarnation and karma be included? Would the Buddhist concept of "nothingness" be included? Would the duty of making religious pilgrimages be included? Or would a deciding committee just choose one religion and force it onto everyone worldwide? How would they force it? What if the religion chosen was one that you aren't familiar with or didn't agree with---would you just say, "Oh well. It's the world's religion now so I'll just give up my beliefs and denounce my deity/ies and believe whatever they tell me to."? What kind of deity/ies would this common religion have? Would you be willing to worship another deity if yours wasn't picked as the deity of the new common religion? How many of your core values would you be willing to denounce for this new religion?

This is a good question coming from a sincere person.
Honestly I know that is what Islam teaches. Our religion is a system and set "way of life." We have a common set of belief and a system that answers all of questions in life. We have Prophets and Messengers who tell us how to conduct ourselves in Earth even how to use the restroom. The actions and sayings of the Last Messenger has been preserved by the protection of God himself by using people of knowledge. The Quran (Koran) can be proven that it has no errors and contradictions. Take a Quran from Canada, another one from Australia, and another one from China they are all the same!! If it was changed or corrupted that would not hold true. They are all the exact same wording. Not true for other religions and books. Our belief system is to worship God alone without partners and follow the example of the Last Prophet to the best of our ability. That is the way to find happiness. Why all the differences amongst Muslims now you may ask? Well, honestly it is out of ignorance and lack of knowledge. We have abandoned our religion. We have let go of our way and only made it as something ritualistic, one day a week thing.
Our religion teaches us honesty, morality, self respect, and many things to bring about a moral society. It does not teach terrorism, murder, and other immoral behavior. Just read the Quran, the example of the Last Prophet Muhammad and you will know for yourself. Thank you for your question. May God guide us. Peace be upon you.

A lot people including emporers tried and failed.Only one can help God himself, but he does not have religion, and also does not understand what religion is? There will not be a single religion because religions are cultural extension for the search of god, this is why there are so many religions as much as cultures. When religions grow they wil naturally split. if there is a resource aggregation machanism and centralized control authority. Believe it or not each split has something to do with money or power, but they will put idealism(aka difference of opinion) as a mask. You can understand this by the fact that a religious leader without followers never created a religion. A religious leader with followers who never created a religion was christ, But his disregard in this subject was overcome by his followers who founded so many churches , i do know if there is any official record on how many christian denominations are there in the world. If there should be only one religion in the world then the first clause should be it should not receive money/donations from believers, but how will it survive without money.
The no of religions will increase while there is money involved with religion and as far as people have brain.
I am not sidelining the fact that many religion/religious do a lot of charity works that have helped a lot of people around the world

Getting a general consensus on this would be impossible. A common religion would end up being a state religion, which would violate the American constitution's law of separation of church and state. I doubt if you could get two religious sects to agree on a common code of conduct or a common doctrine or a common order of service. There is such diversity of cultures, not only in America, but in other countries as well, that a common religion anywhere is just not feasible. the Antichrist will attempt to establish one-world religion, but he will fail. Jesus loves you.

Why don't we get rid of religion and get back to the basics of just having a relationship with our maker. I don't remember Adam and Eve stating their religion.

thepathfinder is right. However, religion cannot be imposed from above; it comes about through the change in individual hearts. It's only necessary for each individual to investigate the truth for himself, to see with his own eyes, not through the eyes of his neighbor, to hear with his own ears, not through the eyes of his neighbor, and to know of his own knowledge, not through the knowledge of his neighbor. Investigate truth with neither love for it or hate for it in your heart, and with an open heart and an open mind.
Good luck in your investigation.

Will you force everybody to conform to it's rules...what do you do about dissidents...kill them?
Isn't there already a religion or two that already have that ethos and are trying to implement it even now?
