i know where you're coming from...
i've dealt with depression my entire life... the last thing i want is someone who doesn't understand telling me how i should feel or what i should do to get over it.
if you've never had depression, you DON'T understand it.
usually, i write. i will sit down with a journal and a pen and just start writing... whatever comes to my head. sometimes it doesn't make sense, sometimes it does... sometimes i just doodle... but it usually helps.
i also talk to others who have had this problem... i have a good friend that has lived with depression her whole life as well... and she is a good person to talk to.
in the end, medicine helps too... i've tried three different medicines, and finally found one that has worked well for me.

1. Pray.
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No, to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you to do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough exercise.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write thoughts and inspirations down.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.
25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you, Jesus!"
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but yourself not at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33. Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

Ways to beat depression. First, has something happened to you in the recent past that could trigger it? ( death, loosing job, break up with loved one). Second has this feeling gone on for more than a month? Third, do you have thoughts of suicide? If it is the first thing it may be a part of life that will lift after you have mourned awhile. If it is the second thing you may want to go to a doctor or psychiatrist and get meds and ask about a therapist. The eating and sleeping and doing, answers are good but very hard to accomplish if you are depressed. Sometimes the meds and therapy have to come first. If it is the third please seek help right away. Get rid of anything in your house you could use in a weak moment and call someone to help you or call someone to help you seek help if that makes sense. You already made one good move by posting your question. Now follow through on something you read that you think might help. I have been there and it is so painful but it can be dealt with if you make that all important first move. God bless you, I will pray for you and hope you do what you must do to help yourself.

Depression is many times a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Exercise daily , Omega 3 1000mg daily, NO sugar only Complex Carbs.
No alcohol, no recreational drugs..............
8 hours of sleep.........
Get or try to keep a job...............
Keep busy, find a hobby...........an unbusy mind is a mind with time to worry and be depressed.
Sedentary lifestyle can make Depression a lot worse.
If things get worse, see an M.D and Talk Therapist.
Btw----Some ppl have Hypoglycemia or Thyroid problems which can cause Depression.

This is what worked for me
1. Country Walk, at least 3 miles and walk quickly
2. Jog cycle or do anything outside that makes you breathe hard outside
3. Sing! Sing loud (preferably combined with Item 1, you might live near me)
4 Do whatever you feel like doing - do not worry about the consequences,

I completely understand. What I believe to be the best thing to do is keep up with seeing a psychiatrist, take medicine regularly, and attend therapy or counseling. Also make sure you have hobbies that you can get involved in and get your mind off of negative thoughts. And keep yourself around positive people. Exercise and a well balanced diet with a multi-vitamin can help too.

The only thing that helped me get out of depression was medication. That's if you seriously have clinical depression. I have a chemical imbalance. I didn't want to take medication for it at all, I was afraid it would make me like a fakey happy person or something, I don't know. But it just made me feel like myself again. It was a wonderful feeling to come out of depression, I couldn't even try to have a positive thought, it was impossible. I suggest seeing a doctor, and trying medication for your depression. A healthy diet also helps prevent depression, as well as getting enough sun and fresh air. Find a hobby you're interested in and someone you can talk to also. Please email me if you need to talk to someone who really knows what it likes. I'll pray for you also.

You may want to consider ways to change the way you think... the mind is going to always tend to present you with negative thoughts to occupy your mind.. to the point of depression.... the result of this process is a chemical alteration within the body.. is why so many respond to meds which attempt to balance this chemical imbalance. But, the triggers which are responsible for those thoughts remain imbedded within the deep recesses of the mind.. Should you eliminate those triggers, you would be much more in control of what you allow the mind to do to you.

you need to see yur doctor- there are many anti depressants and sometimes it is trial and error to find one that works
exercise helps
counselling- but waiting lists can be lengthy
there is a herbal tablet called St. Johns Wort- very effective in treating depression- one to 2 tablets a day- you cant go out in the sun though, never take prescribed anti depressants with it and it can affect some birth control but if you can live with that it may be an option- always speak to a professional first
i hope things improve

I found a high school track and started walking. When I started my mind was cluttered with everything that was making me depressed. By the time I got to lap 5, I had started to find some solutions to the minor situations. By lap 12, I was just trying to get to my car. Each time I go it takes longer and longer for those feelings to come back.
