The real answer is the amount of salt in the air and therefore in the groundwater that kills the grass. You will find that it happens all over the world with courses right on the ocean. The courses that look green that are on the ocean are more than likely sprayed green or the facility uses lime or iron in the water to bring out the green color.

It's burnt because of the unseasonal hot weather we're having! And it's shabby because it's near Liverpool.

Brits have a whole different notion of what a golf course should look like than we Yanks do. Even the best kept courses in GB look like cow pastures with bomb craters on them. They don't have "rough", they have "Oh great, I've lost another ball"

Because it's a links course, which means it's near the sea, which means it gets dry as the weather in Hoylake is always wonderful! And we haven't had any substantial rain in the past couple of weeks!

the course is on the wirral between two major river esturies and lack of rain. its in one of the poshest areas of england with many footballers living in the area
