now i'm confused. everyone seems to have different opinions on this matter and i just don't see where i stand with this guy. he's asked me if i want him as a bf and he's told me he wants to date me. first date we made out for 2 hrs. are we bf & gf or what?

Not the same. You can go out on a date, or several dates, without being girlfriend and boyfriend.
To me, being girlfriend and boyfriend implies that you are only seeing each other.
A date is just a date. The people don't necessarily have plans to go out on another date and may not unless both people want to.

No, dating is where you can clean-fun with guys without being attached. You are being to see multipul guys at the same time. By clean I mean the traditional stuff, where he takes you out or you guys just hang. Bf and gf is when you guys have a serious relationship and it is just the two of you guys.

Being boyfriend girlfriend is more exclusive than dating.
dating means you go out...you have a good time...you HAVE NOT dropped the L word ("love").
Boyfriends and girlfriends - of a mature level - have usually dropped the L word...or are enjoying consensual sex on a more or less monogamous basis.

being a date is being a date, means you like someone and going out with him. And yes when you have a boy friend, means you two would go to dates.
