Hi guys, our friend here is talking in terms of rupess. Hence, Rs.45,000 would equal US $1000. I dont think you can get a "real hi-fi system" for that price, especially if you want to include a TV into this setup.
However, you can go in for a HTIB (Home theater in a box) setup which would include a 5.1 system and a DVD player. The only viable options that we have in India are Samsung, LG, Philips and Sony. Just drop into a showroom for a demo and get what suits you best. Trust your ears when it comes to deciding the speakers....And make sure that the DVD player also plays mp3, Dual layer DVD, DVD+-R/DVD+-RW and DivX formats. Also, ensure that the DVD player features Dolby and DTS decoding.
Watch out for "marketing words" like P.M.P.O, Digital, etc.
The three main things that you may want to consider are:
a. Performance and Quality
b. Compatibility and Features
c. Aesthetics
Here are a few options:

http://www.sonyindia.co.in/sonyindia/products/DisplayProduct.jsp?modelNumber=DHC-AZ7DM
I am also sure that a Plasma or an LCD won't fit your budget. So, you are stuck with a convetional CRT display. You can probably spend 10-15 k on a 29-inch TV...
P.S: If you really love quality music and want the highest quality of sound, even a simple hi-fi stereo speaker will cost you twice your current budget. Hence, you will be disappointed after blowing up 45k. But, if you are casual movie buff, then stick with your current budget. It should be more than enough.

I saw one of the systems you're asking about.
I think the only thing missing were the chips and beer.
Seriously, And it did cost that much.

For clarification, i think he is talking in Rand. 50k South African Rand translates to about 6500 dollars... Also things are more expensive there than they are in the US
