You will find it really really hard/impossible to get one you may get a cross with pit bull in it but not a "full" one as they are classed as a dangerous dog under the 1991/1997 act
this means that all pit bulls and cross pit bulls
had to be/must be registered
muzzled and on a lead in public (by a person not younger than 16 years old) (a public place includes a locked car if the car is in a public place)
neutered (the eventual aim is to eliminate them from the UK)
micro-chipped and insured.
Many people get confused between pit bulls and staffies (Staffordshire bull terriers), if it is a staffy you want get in touch with the kennel club, they will be able to put you in touch with people who have had registers puppies, or you can contact staff rescue or you local pound to give an unwanted dog a much needed loved home. (i do not think these give the papers out and you dog with be snipped so you can not breed from it)
I would be really suspicious if any one says they have pit bulls as it is highly likely they are lying and just want to make money out of you.

Pitbull ownership was extremely limitted by the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991. Basically you need to ask the courts if you are allowed among other things as they are a very aggressive set of breeds. More information on the act can be found in the source below.

As for where, I blieve it is also illegal to sell/rehome, or breed for other people, pit bulls in the UK.

it depsnds if you want full pedigreee then its a breeder or the kennel club, or if not bothereed you could try batersea dogs home, theres plenty of places to get a pit bull from, but make sure there decent breeders or registered dogs homes etc.
