Yes, this happen in the past and about 50 years back from now (in Spore).

In the past, Coffins are bought and put in a room which no one is allowed to enter. Cos the olden ppl believe that once the Coffin is being put still, no one is allowed to move, if not, bad luck will fall on the family.

For those who are rich in the past, after a certain age, many said 50, some said 60, the elderly will need to choose a set of Coffin for themselves.

After that, they will prepare a set of Shou Yi (which is the set of clothing that they wear into the Coffin after they died). In the set of Shou Yi, it contains 7 colour layers. Each colour will represents a certain meaning.

All these 7 layers will be needed to bring out on big days for sun-tan. During birthday celebrations of the elderly, they will take out 1 of the 7 colour to wear, this represent Longevity in chinese.

It seems you wanted to tell us that you have bought yours or you're the coffins supplier and posted an ad here!

Obvisiouly, most of us would die in one day and need a coffin unless it is during war time and the body was bombed into pieces!

I have life insurance, medical insurance to cover the needs and I do not have to worry about the market rate of coffins!

Here below is what I heard from my grandpa about lives back in the old days.

Actually not every Chinese could afford to buy a coffin - only rich people or people from middle class had the money to buy the coffins or demanded for good quality coffins (order made from skillful carpenters).

It's quite similar to those Emperors who built their tombs in their young days.

never heard of, but i know many around me are buying up cremation slot, making reservations for the best slots available. There are even conducted tours here in singapore to visit the place of the death for the to view the areas, and let them decide where to rest after death. I have seen pictures of these places from the groups who went for the conducted, these places doesn't seem anything like where the dead would go, it sure looks more like a hotel or a spa, the ambience is great. Some people pay deposits to book an entire block for all their families, so everyone can stay together when they died, it's amazing.
