Try to find someone you might know from the neighborhood or church that goes to that school so you might have an instant friend or at least that you can ask questions about. Have your parents take you up for a tour and try to get a school map so you don't get lost all the time. You want to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to yourself accidentally, such as buying a lunch when everyone in your grade brings their lunch. Make sure you have the supplies you need (keep extras in your locker) so that you are prepared and not singled out in class. Be Friendly To Others! That's the best advice. If you go and sit in the back and sit by yourself, you'll feel horrible. It takes guts to go and sit with others at lunch but a big smile and being a good listener will make you a friend to others. Go online and look at the school's website. You'll see pictures of teachers and students and learn about special events. Go to after school games and activities. Try to join a club (chess, math, music, etc) because then you'll have a small group to get to know and you won't feel so alone. Buy a school t-shirt or other item to show your school spirit. Watch the crowds and don't hang with the bad crowds. You don't want to get a bad reputation. Smile. Hold your head up. Remember, there will be other new kids too and you can be their friend.

My first suggestion to you would be to keep a low profile for a while. Try not to stand out at first. Do a lot of observing. Depending on what grade you're going into, people might not be too concerned about the "new kid" anyway. Usually, the higher the grade, the less concern there is, which in turn means less stares, less "who is the new girl??", etc.
Whatever you do, don't act scared. If you are scared and nervous, people will notice, and that is the "reputation" you will get. If you go in acting confident, friendly (but not too friendly), with your head raised high, you'll come across as someone people want to be friends with.
Believe me, I know first hand what it's like to be under the scrutiny of your peers. It's nerve wracking.
Oh, and it's instinct to try to find a friend and "latch onto" them. It's okay to do that, but don't find that one friend and call it quits. Keep "networking", making more friends, because you never know when that one friend won't be there anymore.
I wish you the best of luck, you'll do great! You're wise to be getting advice ahead of time.

Just find out the mates you are going to be with and if possible get friendly with couple of them before hand. So when you go out there, you have some one known already. This will help you take out your worries.
As such there is nothing to worry about going to a public school. Its always fun to be with people and you are surely gonna enjoy the time...:)

dont worry, its like going to a new school when you move or graduate. Its easy in public school, because now you will be more socialable. Friends always make it easy at rough times, just make a friend at start and before you know it you'll be friends or their friends. people may pick on you no matter what school, but if your lucky they wont. But if anybody can go through it, so can you, it just takes time to to get used to.
Thats all...
hope you enjoy public school..... :)

You dont need to get ready. Prepair yourself to be shocked at how far behind other kids are. Bring a book to read during class so you do not get so board.
Put it on cruz control becase you will get As without even trying.

Find a nice group of friends as soon as possible on your first day. You'll learn about the ways of your school pretty quickly. Don't say anything mean to anyone (even if they are mean to you), and don't try to make friends with any bullies.
I'm sure it'll be fine. :)
