Longer way but ultimately better, just dont hit the M3/M27 junction at rush hour or you'll wish you'd gone M4 - M5

I would suggest you go on theaa.com and ask them - but having had a look, they mix the M4 and the A303. It may depend upon where you are going in Cornwall, however.

I put in London to Penzance. Avoiding motorways, the time it will take is 6 hr 27 min and it is 298.3 miles. Using motorways, the time taken will be 5 hr 56 min and it is 285 miles. When you put the route in, it shows where the holdups are - and there are quite a few on the M4!

However, the time taken will depend upon what time of day you go!

Basically, you pays your money and you takes your choice!

Have a good holiday - but make sure you have lots of water to drink in case you are stuck in a traffic jam!

The M4 is a boring route. I like the A303 because of the variation in speed and scenery.

I'd take the South coast road going the Bournemouth, Weymouth way and joining the A303 at Exeter. There's better views and the traffic flows a lot more freely.

I always take the A303 unless it's a bank holiday when it should be avoided. It took me 13 hours to get back from North Devon to Kent on New Years Day!

Either way is a nightmare this time of year, but I'd recommend M3/A303 and then the A30 into Cornwall, but it is really packed these weeks, so be warned!

Seriously, fly dude! its the only way to do it and costs about the same, plus when you get there you wont feel like crap as it takes 30mins to get there.

Also, everyman and their fooking dog is going there at the moment so it will take you 3 hours longer, as when you hit Exeter its all single lane till you get to your destination.

Miss Bristol as much as possible as they are digging all of the routes around up.

Have a great time down there dude! going surfing???
