Well, I live pretty close to St Ives and its a lovely place, beaches, shops, great pubs/resturants etc. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of hotels, b and b's etc where you could stay. Check out this website for more info

Holidayed there about 10 years ago with young kids - some nice beaches, gets a bit crowded and a devil to get to. The A30 is hell at weekends. Beware of extremely viscious seagulls around the harbour, they will take your 'pasty' or cone - kids are easy prey for the blighters.
Can't remember wanting to go back or wishing I lived there, which tends to be my measure of a place. Lots of crap artists drawn there by the tate as well. Better off going further up the coast I think, the area around Boscastle is a favourite - ruggid, great hidden beaches, some really nice pubs, etc. depends on what you want to do - good surf as well.

Newquay is truthfully in North Cornwall! i in my opinion would not reccomend going to Newquay, it particularly is fairly busy, noisy, your probably to get stabbed and it particularly is packed with stressful people in lifeguard hoodies! There are truthfully banning those hoodies. It grew to become into on the radio on the instant.
