Yes. "News" is singular even though it ends in s. It is NOT the plural of "New".

"News" is also non-count. Like bread, milk, cake, beer, coffee. So you have to say "some bread OR a piece of bread", "some coffee OR a cup of coffee.

So you can't say "I heard a news". You have to say I heard some news OR I heard a piece of news.

It's correct to say "concerned about this news".

"concerned about these news" is WRONG.

We do, but it's not really that good.

'This piece of news' or 'this item of news' sound a little less natural, but a little more grammatically correct.

Or you can just say 'Everyone in the world is concerned about this.'

Sure you can. This news refer to that particular article but people prefer using the term , this piece of article because it sounds better although it has the same meaning as this news. So why not? It sounds okay.

I think it was the newspaperman Horace Greeley who insisted that the word "news" was plural. He'd ask the question, "Are there any news?" One of his friends used to answer him, "Not a new."

Yes. Despite its plural appearance, "news" is singular.
