My dear, you should understand that even though he may not hate you, he will certainly feel bad about that.
Well, this does not mean that you should give up.
First, ask talk to him about her. ask him if he would really mind if she would go out with smb else, and then explain that if this person would be YOU.
I think it would be better if you talk to him before you start dating her. This would avoid ill feelings between you.
I don't think he will be that selfish and tell you not to date her (when he understands that you both like each other).
Good luck!

You should never give up a friend in order to "get" with someone. Unless you truly believe she/he is "the one". By the way you use the term "like" I assume that you are not in love...so it may not last...
You could also ask him....but he may say it's okay when he really doesn't feel that way...why risk a friendship that could last forever.

Tell him and ask for his blessing. He should be sproting enough.Never break a friendship for a girl as it is never worth it.She might dump you in the end and you might be left with nothing.

As the old saying goes..."all's fair in love and war"...or "you snooze you loose". If your friend doesn't have the balls to ask her out and she's not seeing anyone then ask her out. It's not up to you to not date any girl he could potentially like. If he really liked her as much as you say he does then he would have asked her out.

well....this actually REALY relates to me right now. a few days ago i found out that the girl ive liked for ages (like....9 months?) likes my bestfriend. so i sat and thought for ages...and to be honest, it's better if she goes out with him and gets over him...because i wouldnt want to go out with her if she liked him sooo...yeah.
i guess that should be enough help.
add me on YIM (darcy100uk) if you want more help?

he'll be mad, yep. But you must look at the whole picture, is she the one? If she is, is your friendship with him worth losing her? If she's not, is a relationship with her worth losing your best friend?

He may dislike you...but if it is meant to be...he may be your best man(at wedding) instead of just your best friend...if he is not OK with it...you need a better friend.
