If you had faith that you could stop a car travelling at 30mph just by standing in front if it people would think you were mad. But you had faith that it was true so that was ok. But you could be proved wrong if you stood in front of a car, failed to stop it and got run over.

So, faith is ok until proved wrong? Unfortunately it can not be proved either way that god/allah/krishna/heaven/hell until we die. so is faith in a greater power just stupidity?

I do live my live by Christian Morals. In my opinion, more christian than a lot of christians. I just don't believe in God and Jesus (at least as deity)

Faith is apart of your structure, of which you are evolved, creating the person you become and shaping the world you live in around you.
It is not down to Religion but having faith in ones self for what defines you as a person. Faith can be many things but to have it, to feel it is a powerful part of your self-reliance, responsibility and confidence. To be comfortable in your own skin...That is faith my friend and if you discover a spiritual side to it all the better..

Even if you don't believe in God/Allah/Krishna/heaven/hell/whatever, is it really so bad to try and live according to the basic principles of religion, because it requires you to be a good person?

About what 'adam' said about there being less wars and racial abuse: just because some idiots choose to read their respective scriptures selectively to use only what suits them, doesn't mean religion is a bad thing! Religion is about loving your 'neighbour' and respecting other people, etc. War is never the answer.

I don't necessarily think it is about religious difference that people go to war for, I think a lot of times it has to do with the men in power of the situation's egos being bruised!

If women ruled the world, we wouldn't have all this crap in the world!

It is an easy way to feel meaningful with youself, And makes it that bit easier when you die!
I believe faith is in some part ignorance, If some one told you that every thing in this book was real(lets say 'The govenor' lenny mclean) would your faith be boxing people when the s*"t hit the fan! It makes people feel clever for reading a book and less guilty cause the book says it is ok.I think if some one has morales and dignity they don't need faith!
What did faith do for the starving and ill people who die every day all over the world apart from let them die,Would there mothers and children have faith!

Faith is to have firm belief in GOD and HIS powers. Faith does not mean to do something stupid or illogical and then say its part of my faith.

All the actions that we do are meant to take place as written in our destiny. But this does not mean that if i dont study, i will get the pre-written first grades. If i dont eat, it doesnt mean that i will fill my stomach.

So then what exactly is faith?

Its the combination of Actions and Pre-destination. It doesnt depend solely on either. For example, if i am to die in so and so place, i will definitely die there.
A guy survived a fall from 15 floors and he was unhurt. He just couldnt believe it that he survived. His friends asked him to celebrate this chance of a new life. So he took them to the restaurant on the opposite side of the road. But, he had an accident and he died.

Inference: His death was meant to be by the accident not by the fall. Therefore he died in the second ambush.

This doesnt mean that we must leave all our options and become a play thing in the hands of GOD. In Islam you have to do the action. Or man is liable for the action, But the result is by GOD. It may be suiting the action or else in some cases it may go against too.

My faith tells me the sun will rise in the morning, the moon will orbit around the earth and it will be light in the morning. However, My faith in daylight could be challenged if a volcano erupts and volcanic ash blocks out the light. I could also have faith or absolute belief that stepping in front of a car will result in being hit and killed. Faith does not mean that one can reverse the laws of nature...that is an overblown ego combined with stupidity. Faith is sometimes very concrete, other times abstract and still again, sometimes spiritual...why prove it? Just let it be.

I wouldn't call it stupidity, insecurity or selfishness perhaps? I think some people find it difficult to accept that their lives don't have any purpose so they look to some devine answers. The truth is their lives DO have a purpose but they just don't see it, instead they subscribe themselves as being of a higher purpose which is a wholly selfish standpoint.

I think ignorance plays a big role in faith also, ignorance of other belief systems and the simple facts of life.

In answer to the original question, stupid - maybe, ignorant and selfish - probably, wrong - unquestionably

My friend, nowhere in Islam God asks you to do such stupid things that go against the nature.
He is the creator, why would He do that his creations?

Bible on the other hand gives you an awesome test to be proven as a true Christian...

Mark 16:17-18:

17: And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18: They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

How many Christians you see these days taking up this challange?
I know some of them are going to give you the line what Jesus said to Satan "I will not tempt God" but they forget, according to them Jesus is God so Jesus was talking about himself, the test in Mark is for verify a true "believer"

Not all religions in this world ask you to go against the nature.

Hebrews 11:1 -
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Hebrews 11:6 -
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

You say you do not believe in God or Jesus (as deity you said)....if that is the case, then you are living with faith far greater than I. I simply believe that the Creator, God, sent His perfect Son, Jesus, to this earth to pay the debt I owed and provide a way for all to enter Heaven (if accepted). I believe He is the Rock, the Fortress, the Everlasting Father, Almighty God, Prince of Peace, etc.

You do not. It takes greater faith to believe in nothing or to believe that we came from a rock (aka - evolution).

the only ignorance comes from those like the first person answering. Just because you have no faith it doesnt mean you shouldnt respect other peoples beliefs. This applies to all areas, not just religion.

Personally I'd like to believe but still have too many questions to be able to believe fully.

Faith is believing in something/someone before you see proof. With God, the proof is shown to you afterward. Jesus doesn't just hang you out to dry like that.

I prayed to Heavenly Father to meet someone to fall in love with and be with for the rest of my life. I told no one (NO ONE) about my prayer. A week later, someone I had worked with a few months earlier called me and said, "You're not going to believe this but God inspired me to ask you out on a date." We got married six months later.

By the way, five hundred people saw Jesus walking on the third day after His crucifixion.

1 Corinthians 15:

3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter,[b] and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
